SIMPLE WORK FROM HOME OFFICE STYLE

Over the course of the past 6+ weeks (how has it been that long?!) of working from home I’ve developed a simple formula that gets me ready for Zoom meetings in less than 5 minutes flat. Most of the time I spend the days in a simple pair of jeans and t-shirt anyway – but when I know I need to be camera ready for a conference call I throw on a great blazer and add one distinct accessory. A pretty scarf, headband that helps to hide my incessantly growing roots or a layered necklace. That’s it, and I instantly feel put together and presentable. I highly suggest it the next time your boss suddenly wants to Facetime.

SPRING WISHLIST UNDER $100

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have seen me mention I had officially gone 3 MONTHS without shopping for a single piece of clothing or accessories. In mid-December it was because I was spending on Christmas gifts for family instead. In January it was a concerted effort to practice self control and focus on my finances for the year ahead. But my February and into March it was simply because I really had re-set my attitude towards my wardrobe. Simply liking something in the moment wasn’t enough for me to own it. A sale going on didn’t need that I had to grab something just because it was a steal. In three months I’ve really been able to come to terms with what I want my wardrobe and shopping habits to look like going forward.

And that doesn’t mean I’ll never shop again. In fact, I finally broke the streak and just picked up this dress (which I know will work at the office with flats and a sweater, on a date with heels and on weekends with sneakers and a denim jacket). And I’ll likely grab a few more of the pieces shown here (the linen blazer and this little bag are top contenders) knowing that I’ll wear them constantly throughout the Spring and Summer ahead.

Happy shopping (or not – you decide for yourself).

ps. this one bag is just over $100 but it’s so cute I made an exception.

WEEKEND STYLE: OVERALLS AND STRIPES

The Steele Maiden: Weekend Style - overalls and stripes

I’ve been eyeing overalls for more seasons than I’d like to admit at this point. On cool girls in coffee shops, on Pinterest, everyone was pulling them off with ease. But for some reason I felt like on me they’d be all wrong. But then I reminded myself that I tried wide leg chinos recently to happy results and so I finally decided to give it a go. This pair was less than $40 and as evidenced here – we’re getting along just fine.

COLD SHOULDER TOP AND PANAMA HAT AT THE NYPL

New York Public Library: Cold Shoulder Top and Navy Midi Skirt

If there’s one thing my Mom preached, it was to keep me head up when things looked bleak and that the sun will always come out tomorrow. Turns out (as often was the case).. she was right. And this weekend the sun finally came back out to play. So on Mother’s Day – I borrowed from my Momma again (via her 1970s style) and was inspired to throw together this outfit for a Sunday afternoon trip to Bryant Park.

OFF THE SHOULDER TOP AND PRINTED SKIRT

Off the Shoulder Top and Over the Knee Boots

It seems, as evidenced by yesterday’s lookthat I’ve officially been bitten by the off the shoulder (or OTS) bug. Coupled with OTK boots (over the knee that is) and this saucy little number was ready for a night out last Friday. As seen IRL (in real life.. and I swear I’m done).
