WEDDING GUEST ATTIRE (AND SURVIVAL KIT INSTAGRAM GIVEAWAY!)

I have been the flower girl, the maid of honor, a bridesmaid and a guest more times than I can count. This Summer alone? I rsvp’d yes FIVE TIMES. Meaning once a month, from now until October – Adam and I will suit up, say congrats and then shake a leg on the dance floor. If you’re headed into wedding season and have no idea what you are in for… I’m willing to share my tips for survival.

While I’ve got nothing to help you with the fact that you may get seated at the ‘randoms’ table or how to get out of dancing with the bride’s Uncle who knocked back one too many rum & cokes – I can help you sartorially speaking. Step one is to wear a dress you’re comfortable in. The look of said dress is going to vary widely depending on the formality and the venue of the wedding itself (black tie city vs. rustic country barn vs. boho beach) – but in any situation you should be comfortable. There will likely be changing temps throughout the evening and plenty of sitting, standing and dancing. Make sure the dress can keep up. This one from Ramy Brook – with it’s forgiving elastic drop waist and bit of sleeve coverage – will fit the bill nicely for one of the more casual weddings I’ve got coming up this Summer. And if at all possible (especially if your wedding season looks like mine) try to find a dress or 2 that you can wear to multiple occasions by simply switching up accessories.

My next bit of advice? Carry the essentials. For me – that means cell phone, credit card, cash for tips at the bar, Advil, tissues (because wedding season overlaps with allergy season for me and because my Mom & sister inevitably tear up at these things and I have to pass them out), and a small bit of make-up for touch ups throughout the evening. Aforementioned essentials should go in a bag that fits them all but still feels wedding appropriate (leave the work satchel at the office please). It’s roomy but doesn’t look overstuffed when it’s full, plus the subtle embossed monogram is so chic.

And my last tip to surviving until they live happily ever after? A secret pair of foldable flats stashed in said clutch, so that after a long night – or hey, even halfway through the night when you just really want to make some moves on the dance floor – you can switch out of your heels and get your second wind. This metallic pair by Yosi Samra (you guessed it – also in my Giveaway!) are so cute, no one will even notice you ditched your heels.
