If you tuned in yesterday, then you’re already familiar with these tweed pumps from Talbots. For day, I went cozy winter chic in quintessential fair isle, an overcoat and skinny trousers. But for night, I played up the 1940s vibe of their chunky-heeled shape and paired this lace pencil skirt with a shoulder detail silk blouse and metallic vintage clutch. The fun of winter dressing to me is largely in the texture – and the tweed on the shoes adds a masculine counterpoint to sweeter silk and lace. Finished with a red lip, loose curls, and these drop earrings (that remind me of the NYE ball!) and I’m ready for an office party, dressed-up dinner, or meeting under the mistletoe.
I mentioned it last week, but I am having major holiday fever. So when my friends at Talbots asked me to style up a couple of holiday looks I really ran with it. If you’re not familiar with Talbots – you need to be. My Mom has worn them for years and so I was always aware of the brand, but lately they’ve really upped their style game and I’ve found myself lusting over just about everything in their fall/winter line. I like that their pieces are modern and classic, but still allow you to kind of put your own twist on them. My twist is coming in the form of these gorgeous tweed pumps – worn 2 ways for 2 perfectly holiday ready looks. The first of which is this daytime look I’d wear to the office in the hectic days leading up to Christmas break, a tree-trimming party with friends, or an afternoon date with Adam. The black, white and red is balanced with touches of grey, lots of texture and this fun fair isle pattern. Come back tomorrow to see my 2nd look!
I ended November in a pile of to-do lists, but now that December is here? All I’m planning on checking off are the activities on my Holiday list. There’s just 23 days until Christmas (and less if you’re counting down to Hanukkah), so I’m cramming it all in. Find the perfect mini tree for our little apartment, ice skating, gift shopping (shop all the picks from my gift guides here), playing this record on repeat.. you get the drift. Another type of checking I don’t mind? These mixed plaid check prints. Because, well, the more the merrier this time of year.
New York is where I live now (and where I plan to stay for years to come) – but home will always be a tiny rural corner of Pennsylvania. This past holiday weekend, Adam and I took a walk along some of our favorite back roads leading us to where this red covered bridge sits strong after all these years. December has me excited about cozy winter layers (talk to me in March and I’m sure I’ll feel differently), and so I was more than happy to break out this camel coat plus a new hat and mittens. Since I’m sure I’ll be hidden under lots of layers for the next few months, I’ve been trying to think of creative ways to spruce up my same old neutral coat – here a peek of this graphic sweater, plaid blanket scarf, bright tote and leopard booties provided a fun shot of contrast.
We’re in the thick of the biggest shopping weekend of the year (p.s. my Black Friday guide has tons of deals that are still going on!), so it felt only appropriate to share what I’m typically wearing around town running errands and shopping on a Saturday. Now that winter feels here to stay, I’ve been trying to up my coat game and this cobalt cocoon coat from Missguided is my favorite new addition. It’s simple enough in shape, but the color stands out in a crowded sidewalk sea of black puffer coats. Sneakers, jeans, and a warm hat and I’m good to be out and about all day. Meanwhile, everything feels like Christmas on the streets and in the shops and I’m feeling so excited to be back in New York for this holiday season. Hope you’re all having a wonderful long weekend!
