fade to black

The Steele Maiden: Fade to Black
If there’s ever been a question of what to wear for a night out in Manhattan – the answer has always been all black plus a few great accessories.  It’s a no fail combo that I fell back on this past weekend for a girl’s night out – grabbing a pair of often worn skinny jeans and tank, adding my highest ankle strap stilettos, favorite vintage bags – and then to keep things from becoming entirely predictable these Loren Hope knockout statement earrings.  You all know I love a good statement necklace, but the statement earring feels totally cool right now and a bit unexpected against the simplicity of black basics and a not too sleek ponytail.  Below I’ve rounded up a few other stiletto and statement earring combos I’m loving right now – because, well, it’s Friday and is any other really excuse needed?

p.s. We’re headed out to Adam’s lake house this weekend so be sure you’re following me here to see what I’m packing and my (most likely failed) attempts at water-skiing.

morning match

The Steele Maiden: Morning Match
Since our office switched hours for the Summer (4 longer days followed by 3 glorious days off) and New York has started to really warm up – it’s more important than ever to be able to have standby outfits to grab in the morning and get out the door.  This pencil skirt (which I admittedly also own in a gingham print last seen here) has been one of those key pieces ever since I picked it up earlier this Spring.  In fact, the first way I wore it was paired with tights and a scarf.  But now, it makes the perfect match for a fun floral blouse, and one that is actually supposed to be wrinkled might I add – because honestly who wants to deal with ironing in the morning?

summer soiree

The Steele Maiden: Summer SoireeEver have one of those match made in outfit-heaven moments? This Darling Clothes dress (in all its Summer white glory) has been hanging in my closet for a couple of weeks now just itching to be worn but I wasn’t quite sure where or with what.  That is until this oversized shining daisy Loren Hope cuff showed up and everything else just sort of fell into place.  The stark white of the dress was just begging for a few pops of color – I went full fledged femme and chose pink and purple – and the tiny daisy details were all the more fun once I added the bracelet and floral print sandals.  Summer always ends up full of invites and this look is as soiree ready as they come.  Darling Clothes Dress c/o // Loren Hope Dahlia Cuff and Sarra Cuff c /o // Coach Clutch – similar via Asos // Anthropologie Sandals

hell yes

The Steele Maiden: Hell Yes
Although my style is usually pretty consistent, I find myself sometimes ending up on one extreme or the other.  Take yesterday for example – floral femme in a bright white shift and pretty pinks and purples with photos taken in picturesque Central Park.  So naturally the following day all I wanted to wear was a slightly wrinkled t-shirt, cutoffs and sneakers for pictures taken by this overly affirmative mural under an overpass in Brooklyn.  It’s good to balance things out right?  You all know I love a good pair of heels (some of my favorite Summer pairs here) but we walked through the outer borough for something like 5 miles on Sunday and nothing but a pair of slip on sneakers would do.  Can I get a hell yes?

crop to it

The Steele Maiden: Crop to ItThis past Saturday was the first real hot Summer night of the year.  And as someone who has basically been cold since we moved back from LA, I reveled in it.  It’s weather like this that makes it impossibly fun to run around the city until all hours of the night (which is exactly what we did – including a few hours at a ping pong bar – did you know they existed? – and ended sometime around 3 am).  And if it is truly Summer, then there’s no more fitting article of clothing than the crop top.  Suddenly seen everywhere, I’m probably only brave enough to bare that tiny sliver that sits above a high waisted skirt (I’m still obsessing over this denim one, last seen here) but still it felt fun which is just how Summer style should be.  Another thing that I let get a little wild in the warmer months?  My lion’s mane of hair.  These are my natural waves, but I’ve been adding a touch of Clarisea’s Sea Salt spray just to drive the point home.Grayson Shop Crop Top c/o // Asos Denim Skirt c/o // Capwell & Co Cuff Bracelet // Rebecca Minkoff Bag via Nordstrom Rack // H&M Heels – similar via Piperlime // Sunglass Warehouse Aviators c /o
