weekend flashback

After a pretty hectic first half of the Summer, I’ve been craving a slower pace for the remainder of the season.  So I stayed in the city this weekend and made some pretty good progress on crossing things off our Summer bucket list.  I caught the Yves Saint Laurent movie at the Film Forum in the West Village Thursday night (its in French with subtitles, but if you can find a local theater playing it I highly recommend it!) and on Friday visited the Charles James exhibit at the Met (another must see if you’re in New York sometime in the next few weeks).  The rest of the weekend was blissfully slow and spent wandering around our East Village neighborhood, pulling inspiration for the coming weeks from this month’s magazines and brainstorming a few projects I’ve got in the works.  Hope you’re headed into Monday feeling just as rested.

p.s. Come back tomorrow for details on an awesome giveaway with one of my favorite new brands!

weekend flashback

This weekend I headed to the beach (for the first time since leaving LA this past March!) and I have to say it was pretty glorious to be reunited with the sand, sun and surf.  I managed to spend about 12 hours parked firmly beside the ocean on Saturday, hanging with family, grilling up fresh meals, and working on achieving a golden brown tan (hint: that still involves wearing sunscreen – sunburn is so not chic people).  This is actually the last (planned) weekend away we have for the Summer, and while they’ve been wonderful so far – I’m really looking forward to crossing some things off our New York Summer bucket list now that we’ll be city dwellers the rest of the season.  What’s on your to-do lists for the second half of Summer?  Mine includes lobster rolls and Coney Island!

The Steele Maiden: Weekend Flashback
How was everyone’s Fourth of July weekend? If it was every bit as relaxing as mine I’m guessing you don’t want it to end just yet.  Luckily there’s still a few hours left (meaning I can take one more sunset stroll, enjoy one last delicious homemade meal and possibly squeeze in another episode of Orange is the New Black – who else is binging watching?).  We had a rain day on Friday, but made the most of it with an indoor picnic and luckily things cleared up for a pretty amazing fireworks show over the Brooklyn Bridge on the East River.  The rest of the weekend was gorgeously sunny and I spent it lazing about, moving from park to park, finishing one book and starting another.  I love New York year round, but there’s a distinct vibe in the Summer when the whole city sort of runs around like kids again that really is the best.

The Steele Maiden: weekend flashback trip to the poconos
Even though we swore we wouldn’t travel again this weekend (we haven’t spent a full weekend here in the city in a month now..) the opportunity to head back to Adam’s family’s lake house in the Poconos proved impossible to resist.  So for the last 3 days I’ve been busy mastering paddle boarding, swinging in the hammock, laughing until I cried with all of our friends from back home in PA, and working hard on my tan (#nocomplaints).  That being said, I’m pretty happy to be back to our little East Village apartment tonight and to tackle another week.  I’ve got some fun Fourth of July posts to share with you over the next few days (it’s maybe my favorite holiday!) and finally no plans to leave this wonderful city again for a couple of weeks.

p.s. ASOS is having their huge Summer sale right now and if you’ve had your eye on something (this and this have been patiently waiting on my wishlist ) now is the time to scoop them up!

Happy June! This weekend felt like it flew by in a blur , as all the good ones do.  This week was the last time I’ll be at work on a Friday until after Labor Day (our office has 4 day weeks in the Summer.. seriously.. please don’t hate me) and so after a busy day I jumped right into what turned out to be perfect weather all weekend here in New York.  I spent most of it outside (parks, bridges, restaurants with outdoor seating, you name it), but traded in my walking sneakers for heels on Saturday when I had a fun night out seeing one of my favorite singers Alex Winston (think Lana Del Rey meets Lily Allen) perform at a little club downtown.  I’m off to get ready for another busy (but short) work week, and I’ve got some fun things coming up this week on the blog – so stick around!
