When it comes to New York Fashion Week (NYFW) – they say ‘go big or go home’. And while I still always want to feel like myself (especially as I’m meeting new brands/bloggers and representing my own brand), I definitely like to be bolder than the other 50 weeks of the year. For me – that means picking a few of the season’s biggest trends and really playing them up. On my first day of shows/events I went for a ‘Seventies inspired flight attendant’ vibe featuring this suede dress, structured handbag and metallic tassel loafers.
Weekends at the lake (or the beach.. or the park…) mean I’m in a swimsuit and some form of cover-up pretty much all day. I’ve been loving lightweight tunics lately that provide a bit of coverage late in the day, are easy to toss on and off, and look just as good with a few wrinkles here and there. Besides the tunic love – I’ve rounded up a bunch of options here included cute tank dresses, breezy drawstring pants and easy kaftans (plus a few add-on accessories!) sure to up your lake/beach/pool-side game this summer.
How is it that it’s already almost the Fourth of July?!? The month of June has been flying past me, so this weekend Adam and I snuck away to the lake house and for a couple of blissful days, time practically stood still. And for the short lived time that I put on anything besides a bathing suit – this is what I wore. Which would be perfect for the upcoming weekend’s festivities.
I’m not kidding when I say that after seeing 5 uninterrupted days of sunshine in the forecast (after what feels like a lifetime of cold, dreary days here in New York) – I ran out and bought a new sun hat. Luckily, this wide brim one was less than the cost of lunch in this town and (if the sun can keep the pattern up) then I’ll be getting plenty of wear out of it.
Every year around this time I try to do a major spring closet cleaning. I unpack my warm weather clothes (kept packed away neatly in cloth baskets on higher shelves all winter) and take a look at what I really loved from the season prior and what I never did get around to wearing. Then I make a keep/donate/sell sorting system and re-stock my closet from there. It feels great not only to rid myself of things I’ve hung on to for too long (and give them to a new home), but it also serves as a clear indicator of what I truly need. Since spring shopping tends to have me all – dresses! heels! – it’s good to be able to truly asses what I need before I even think of adding something new. I tackled the challenge a couple of weekends ago and what I noticed I really need are neutral, go with jeans on a Saturday or a nice pencil skirt on a Tuesday, kind of shirts and blouses. Here – a few of the ones that caught my eye – all of them less than $100, but most of them less than $50!
