On Tuesday, I shared my birthday wish list – which was basically just a group of things from ASOS that I’m lusting after for Spring/Summer and am using my impending birthday next week as an excuse to indulge. Yesterday I revealed the first of half of what I actually scored from that list – the perfect makings of a day trip outfit – and so today I’m showing off what I chose for a night out on the town. I’m not really into birthday parties (in my own honor that is.. the thought of it just sort of makes me cringe), but what I do love is to go out for dinner/drinks with Adam and a couple of close friends. I’ve been obsessing over matching top and skirt sets for months now, and this flowy floral crop top and high waisted skirt number proved irresistible. Now just to pick a place to go out!
Yesterday I shared my Birthday wish list (all compiled from the incredible selection at ASOS right now.. because honestly they’ve kind of got everything), so today I’m back to share what exactly I picked out from that list of must-haves. I mentioned already that Adam and I have a little day trip planned for the occasion, and so this slouchy baseball tee (it totally reminds me of the Senior girls in Dazed and Confused – which happens to be a favorite style reference of mine) paired with a dark denim mini skirt and slip on floral sneakers were the perfect choices. When I’m running around I like to keep things fairly streamlined and this sporty meets girly vibe felt right. When simplifying I think it’s all in the detail – like the print on the sneakers and the dolphin hem on the skirt. I took everything for a test run through Brooklyn over the weekend and while the wind nearly blew me away, you can’t beat that view.
Somehow another year has flown by, and I’ve got a birthday (I’ll leave you guessing as the exactly which one..) coming up a week from today. While I don’t usually make much of a big deal of my own birthday, it comes at just about the time where I want to be changing over into a full out Spring/Summer wardrobe and so it’s a good excuse to pick up a few new items to make the transition more fun. And even though a big party isn’t really my scene, Adam and I always plan a little day trip outing and also pick somewhere fun to go out and grab a drink. My one stop shop for pieces no matter what the occasion? ASOS. I pulled together a wish list of both warm weather, day trip-ready pieces as well as bright and bold items for a night out on the town. As to exactly which ones I picked up for myself? Come back tomorrow and Thursday and I’ll be showing you!
At work, a printed shirt and statement necklace is practically the office uniform. And I’m more than happy to oblige. This particular graphic printed top is already pretty bold, and the necklace clearly speaks for itself – but I love that paired together they sort of blend into one another, creating a bit of an optical illusion. Since there’s a lot going on between the two of them I kept everything else basic black. In other news, I love that the days are slowly getting longer, which allowed for an after work jaunt down to Soho (where these pretty cobbled streets reside).
These days my wardrobe is a measure of extremes. One week I feel compelled towards head to toe neutrals with just a touch of color here and there (this is a good example) and the next I’m singing Spring with bold prints and brights (evidence here). This weekend I see-sawed back and forth between the two, in a split wardrobe-personality that is matched only by the warm one minute, cold the next weather we’ve been having. However when we did get moments of good weather this weekend, I fully embraced it – brunching outside, garden exploring in Central Park, and taking these pretty floral sneakers for a stroll through Williamsburg. It’s going to be a busy week (my sister’s wedding is 6 days away, there’s Cinco de Mayo to be celebrated and I’ve got some really fun posts ready for you here), so I’m relaxing tonight with homemade chocolate chip cookies and playing catch up on last season’s Mad Men. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
