winter whites

The Steele Maiden: Winter Whites
Brrrr.. we had a cold week here in New York (and a crazy busy week but that’s another story) and it had me reaching for lots of layers and cozy textures. There’s a tendency to pull on darker colors when the temperatures drop, but there’s something about ivory that looks so chic. This off-white wool mini skirt was the perfect blank canvas for a matching sweater – and provides such a strong contrast against my typical black tights, tweed coat and big scarf. I can’t wait for this weekend and a chance to catch up and catch my breath. The rest of my gift guides are coming up, what I’m wearing to Thanksgiving dinner and some other fun features are all on their way!

holiday gift guide: austin, texas

The Steele Maiden: Holiday Gift Guide - Austin Texas Style
If you caught my first Holiday Gift Guide last week then you already know we’re on the road with city-themed collections to help you find everything you’re searching for..and then some! Today, we’re focusing on Austin, Texas style – for those in your life that expel that independent, authentic and always easy going attitude. That means for your sister-in-law the foodie (a mouthwatering cookbook and indulgent chocolates), for your hard to shop for Mom (a pretty plaid tote and tree ornament) and for yourself (no judgement, you’ve been good this year) the ultimate in Southern cool.. blue suede shoes. Happy shopping!

holiday hustle

The Steele Maiden: Holiday Travel Style
It’s expected that 43 million Americans will travel next weekend, and for the first time in a few years I’ll be one of them again. While it’s only a 3 hour drive home to PA (when the roads are flooded with ever other holiday traveler that is…), I’ve done my fair share of road trips and know that comfort is key.  Since I tend to dress casually when I’m back home anyway, this boyfriend jeans + sweater + parka look will serve me well next week if I want to pack light, then just mix and match my separates. Where’s everyone else headed next week? I’ll be sharing a few ideas for what to wear for the holiday later this week (plus another city-themed gift guide!) so stay tuned.

sunday steals

Back with another edition of my new series Sunday Steals – and this week there are some serious gems. I’ve got holiday travel on my mind (more on that coming up soon), and between cozy sweaters, cute cross body bags and tailored trousers I’m ready to hit the road. Here – my top picks of the week:

25% Off Sitewide at Kate Spade with code BEMERRY (ends at midnight 11/16) – this wine bag would be a perfect hostess gift and this mini bag just moved to the top of my Christmas list. Plus this bow beanie is just the cutest thing.

35% Off at Old Navy + free 2 day shipping with code CHEER (ends 11/18) – the perfect time to pick up cute basics like these fun socks

French Connection 30% Off Friends + Family Sale with code FCFF30 (ends 11/17) – these trousers are chic but still comfortable and this modern cocktail ring would dress up even a casual holiday look

-40% Off all Tops at Ruche with code TOP40 (ends at midnight 11/16) – these sweaters here and here are great for layering and print mixing!

gone with the wind

The Steele Maiden: Sole Society Hat and Faux Fur Scarf
It’s officially coats and tights weather here in New York – but last week it was just warm enough to get away with a light jacket (plus a few cold weather accessories).  So Adam and I took a quick, windy walk along the East River to take in the views before presumably it will be too cold to fully enjoy this promenade. I’ve been wearing a lot of hats this Fall (examples here and here) and while they were mainly for fashion, as the temps drop they’ll be functional too.  And while we’re speaking of keeping warm? I venture to guess there is no better way than a furry scarf around your neck.  Hope you’re all bundled up and having a great weekend!
