weekend flashback

This weekend I headed to the beach (for the first time since leaving LA this past March!) and I have to say it was pretty glorious to be reunited with the sand, sun and surf.  I managed to spend about 12 hours parked firmly beside the ocean on Saturday, hanging with family, grilling up fresh meals, and working on achieving a golden brown tan (hint: that still involves wearing sunscreen – sunburn is so not chic people).  This is actually the last (planned) weekend away we have for the Summer, and while they’ve been wonderful so far – I’m really looking forward to crossing some things off our New York Summer bucket list now that we’ll be city dwellers the rest of the season.  What’s on your to-do lists for the second half of Summer?  Mine includes lobster rolls and Coney Island!

The Steele Maiden: Weekend Flashback
How was everyone’s Fourth of July weekend? If it was every bit as relaxing as mine I’m guessing you don’t want it to end just yet.  Luckily there’s still a few hours left (meaning I can take one more sunset stroll, enjoy one last delicious homemade meal and possibly squeeze in another episode of Orange is the New Black – who else is binging watching?).  We had a rain day on Friday, but made the most of it with an indoor picnic and luckily things cleared up for a pretty amazing fireworks show over the Brooklyn Bridge on the East River.  The rest of the weekend was gorgeously sunny and I spent it lazing about, moving from park to park, finishing one book and starting another.  I love New York year round, but there’s a distinct vibe in the Summer when the whole city sort of runs around like kids again that really is the best.

The Steele Maiden: weekend flashback trip to the poconos
Even though we swore we wouldn’t travel again this weekend (we haven’t spent a full weekend here in the city in a month now..) the opportunity to head back to Adam’s family’s lake house in the Poconos proved impossible to resist.  So for the last 3 days I’ve been busy mastering paddle boarding, swinging in the hammock, laughing until I cried with all of our friends from back home in PA, and working hard on my tan (#nocomplaints).  That being said, I’m pretty happy to be back to our little East Village apartment tonight and to tackle another week.  I’ve got some fun Fourth of July posts to share with you over the next few days (it’s maybe my favorite holiday!) and finally no plans to leave this wonderful city again for a couple of weeks.

p.s. ASOS is having their huge Summer sale right now and if you’ve had your eye on something (this and this have been patiently waiting on my wishlist ) now is the time to scoop them up!

brunch time

The Steele Maiden: Brunch style with Sole Society and The EverygirlIn case you missed it, yesterday I excitedly shared a look into my feature with The Everygirl and Sole Society.  I’m back today with what was maybe my favorite look (you can see all 4 here).  Brunch is something New Yorkers take pretty seriously, so you can’t exactly turn up looking like you just rolled out of bed.  Unfortunately, catching up on sleep on the weekend is also a serious matter – so this scarf as turban solution is a match made in heaven.  These cutoff jean shorts and this blouse-y white top (denim cut offs and a white top are also a pretty perfect match while we’re at it..) and my leopard slip ons are the perfect mix of well-dressed without seeming overdressed.  Now, can it be the weekend again already?Sole Society Scarf (worn as turban) c/o // Sunglass Warehouse Aviators c/o // Capwell & Co Necklace // Zara Top – recently found in store – similar available via Ruche // Denim Cutoffs – similar via Urban Outfitters // Sole Society Bag c/o // Steve Madden Sneakers

The Steele Maiden: Gloss48 Summer Beauty Giveaway
Now that we’re finally in the full swing of Summer (and may I add just how seriously glorious that is), its time to switch up my beauty routine a bit.  Between the warm weather and my packed schedule, minimum is crucial but if I’m using fewer products they really need to count.  Enter Gloss48, a membership sale site that offers a rotating selection of amazing beauty products.  Already, I’ve found the perfect ‘just got off the beach’ salt spray for my hair from Clarisea (for saying goodbye to that hot hairdryer), bright punchy lip gloss from Amour (which balances out wearing next to no makeup otherwise), and all natural, seriously long-lasting nail color from Beauty for Real (for sandal ready pedicures).  You could get lost in this site so naturally, I had to share.  Two lucky winners will win a $25 gift card to pick up a selection of their own Summer beauty essentials – good luck!
