Doesn’t the week after Labor Day always feel like you’re going back to school? Despite the fact that I haven’t been back to school in nearly a decade and I don’t have any children I’m walking to the school bus, I never can shake that feeling in early September. And I don’t mind, because it gives me a chance to break out a few classic staples (a fresh white tee, new jacket, backpack…) – just like my parent’s would have bought me before a new school year. While I don’t miss homework, I do slightly miss the days when they were footing that bill.. ha.
One of the things I love most about dressing for Fall is the color. Rich jewel tones, luxe neutrals, and pops of brights. When I spotted Pantone’s predictions for the Fall color trends I was swooning and knew I wanted to highlight a few combos of how to wear them. Below – my favorite combos of the moment, but honestly the options are endless.
So long, Summer. We spent the first half of Labor Day weekend at the lake house where it was a rainy 50 something degrees and Summer felt a million miles away. We’re back in the city today though and hoping to soak up one last warm day before resigning to the change of seasons.
Truth be told, I love Fall. September feels more energizing to January to me in terms of ‘starting fresh’ with new habits, new routines and (naturally) new clothes. I’ve been thinking really strategically about my wardrobe going forward (more on that soon), but in the meantime – there are plenty of great sales happening today to help you pick up a few new pieces for the season ahead.
Anthropologie – extra 40% off sale styles – I always love picking up their housewares (like these cute mugs) when they’re on sale.
ASOS– 20% off sitewide with code LABORYAY – I’m picking up this dark floral dress for Fashion Week.
J.Crew – 30% off select styles – really into this fluttery top that comes in black and the prettiest emerald green.
Lands’ End – 25% off sitewide with code – I just got this trench coat and know I’m going to be wearing it on repeat all Fall
August is that tricky time when I never want to give up Summer weather, but I’m also starting to crave a Fall wardrobe. Which is why I try to find pieces that can bridge that gap (even better when they’re super affordable from Old Navy). A lightweight polka dot dress and cute ruffled sleeve floral top are both pieces that can easily be worn now and later. Here, two ways to wear both pieces.
LOOK 1:
For now, I’ll be tossing this polka dot dress on, grabbing a straw tote and sandals and soaking up the last of that summer sun. This would make for a cute Labor Day weekend backyard barbecue outfit too! And in a few more weeks when the morning’s start to turn cool, I’ll add this light cardigan (love the little fringe detail on this one) and switch to suede booties and a wine-stained lipstick to match.
LOOK 2:
I talked about it earlier this week – but the ‘statement top’ trend isn’t going anywhere for Fall and florals are going to be a major trend too (not mad about it). I love that this top is long sleeved so it transitions easily, but has that cute cut-out and ruffle detail. For now, I played up the summer whites for an easy weekend brunch look. But come Fall, I’ll be wearing it with this suede moto jacket (looks 3x as expensive as it actually is) and these cropped dark jeans. I like that they’re really clean but have a subtle little flare at the ends and a raw hem. They’ll go with everything I tell ya.
BRB going to enjoy the last few weeks of Summer and simultaneously dream of Fall fashion.
A lot of my wardrobe translates pretty easily from work to weekend. But sometimes, an article of clothing comes along that says – date night or bust baby. This pink, ruffled, one shoulder top does exactly that. And who am I to deny it?
