Short and sweet. Accurately describing my dress and also my NYFW experience this go around. But we’ll start with the outfit shall we? You already know that my favorite style decade is the 60s so when I’m really going for it fashion-wise, I tend to draw from that time period. I went mod with this butterfly printed silk shift dress (a nod to my late grandmother who loved nothing more than a bright butterfly and a new outfit), sheer dotted tights, sleek booties, rose colored glasses and Bardot hair.

And seriously.. can we talk about this hair? Sarah Rappolt (who is also the mastermind behind this date night hair tutorial) gave me a fresh cut with long shaggy bangs and then gave me the 60’s poof of my Dolly Parton-loving, Brigitte Bardot-worshipping dreams. I wish it looked like this everyday. All in all it’s one of my favorite Fashion Week looks I’ve ever worn (this and this being tied for first).
Wondering why I only joined in the madness for one day this time around? Because, I suppose, it’s become madness. Not to sound like an old woman who doesn’t want to keep up with the changing times.. but back in my day it was this incredible privilege to attend Fashion Week. I would sit outside the tents at Bryant Park on my lunch break from my Fashion Design internships just trying to soak up the air that surrounded it all. And now, it seems like everyone I meet has just cashed in followers to sit in the front row and is spending more time there looking at their phone screens then at the hemlines (which just so happened to take countless people countless hours to perfect). There’s something about the craft of it all that has been lost to the show of it all.
And don’t get me wrong, I realize I’m a part of the democratization of fashion that has led to bloggers (myself included) sitting at those shows. So this is an ironic way to feel. But nevertheless, until I’ve sorted through those feelings and found a way to attend that feels authentic and worthwhile for the people reading this (the reason us bloggers were attending in the first place.. not just so that we could parade through the streets) I was content to skip it this time. Instead, I’ve been pouring over the images of the shows instead and thinking of ways to share with you all the biggest trends for the seasons ahead. That and dreaming of a way to have Sarah do this to my hair every single day.
