And just like that – our vacation came and went. Adam and I spent the past several days road-tripping up the New England coast and exploring Maine. On our second day of the trip, we started off in Cape Elizabeth at Portland Head Light. Since weather was full out Fall up north (and windy by the ocean), I packed practically in light layers and cozy textures.

I’ve been to Maine before as a kid, but my memories were vague at best so it was so much fun to re-discover the state with Adam this time (who had never been). We started the morning at Portland Head Light (the lighthouse shown here) and the surrounding area of Fort Williams Park. Since the lighthouse was pretty crowded with tourists, we set out along the cliff walk that spans the coastline nearby and loved getting a view of the rocky beaches, passing ships and fall foliage in the background.
I just picked up this camel open draped jacket and it’s definitely going to be a fall staple (it comes in 8 colors but since it’s on sale right now I noticed the camel is quickly selling out.. so act fast!) along with this oversized mockneck sweater (also available in a bunch on colors). I saw a lot of rain ponchos and sneakers while we were traveling – but honestly these layers were just as warm and the ankle boots just as comfortable (we walked all day and my feet never hurt) while looking a lot more put together. Just because you’re a “tourist” doesn’t mean you have to fall into the trap of dressing like one.

And if you were following along on Instagram stories while we’ve been traveling than you may have heard the most interesting anecdote from that particular morning – the fact that we were witness (and photographers) to another couple’s engagement! They had asked us to take their photo while on the cliff walk (we’re often subjects to this since we’re always stopped to take photos ourselves) and about half an hour later we saw them again – this time with the lighthouse in the backdrop. We offered to take another photo for them – and before we knew it he was down on one knee! I’m not sure who was more surprised (us or her) but luckily she said yes. And we aren’t the only ones who have memorable pictures from that day.
