I always like to start a new year by refreshing some of my daily routines and more than ever before I’ve been thinking about my skincare. I’ll be turning 30 later this year and now is the time to create a really solid routine that will prevent early signs of aging on my skin. Aside from the whole birthday looming though.. winter in New York is incredibly hard on my skin. Last winter I really struggled with drastic dryness and in turn, surprising breakouts. Not ideal. So this year I couldn’t wait to try out Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Silky Cream Moisturizer and Bi-phase Serum.
Clarins has always been innovative in plant-based science & technology, but this particular duo really goes above and beyond. The serum and moisturizer together are created to combat thermic shocks. The average person’s skin sustains 17 thermic shocks per day – which are drastic changes in temperature or humidity. For instance, leaving my overly heated office out into the cold New York air or moving from the steamy gym locker room to the dry air of our apartment. All of it wreaks havoc on my skin.
The duo is also designed to protect against inside and outside pollutants and environmental stress. I can’t even tell you how many times I walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke or a bus exhaust and little shudder at the thought of my face absorbing all of that. But even if you don’t live in a huge city – I’m guessing you’ve felt the same way.
So in short, I needed something that could really pack a punch. The Hydra-Essentiel pair uses a succulent called ‘Leaf of Life’ (think aloe.. but better) to help your skin retain moisture on it’s own. And once it’s hydrated? It will no longer feel tight and lined, become dry or flaky, or produce excess oil that lead to breakouts. Plus appear brighter and more full. What’s not to love?
In full disclosure, I’ve only been using this for about a week now.. but last night I walked in from the gym (without a stitch of makeup on) and Adam’s first remark was ‘wow, your skin looks great!’. I looked in the mirror and had to agree. Less blotchy and flaky, more smooth and bright. Feels like I’m on the right track already. Here’s to skin that you’ll never guess is turning 30 this year.
