There’s something ironic about standing outside of an ice cream shop in the freezing cold. But that’s exactly where I found myself yesterday and although I didn’t order a cone, I did stay warm thanks to a few careful layers.

The trick for me to wearing an open coat and open knees when the temps drop are the thin layers I have on underneath (a long-sleeved thermal and a cashmere sweater). Plus, and this is key, the absolute warmest knit wool hat (lined with fleece). And if all of that fails, walking very quickly towards my next hot beverage.
