BEST OF: WINTER COATS

The Steele Maiden: Best of Winter Coats

Wait – where did Fall go? With last week’s unexpected snowstorm, winter feels like it is officially here. And that means you’re going to want to stock up on coats. Like, now. I almost always buy my winter coats for the season during Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales (50% off goes a long way on bigger ticket items!). So I thought I’d share my winter coat arsenal in case you want to plan to do the same.

COZY WINTER TEXTURES

The Steele Maiden: Cozy Winter Textures

Once it drops below 30 degrees I basically only want to wear things that have a fuzzy texture. And once it drops below 10 degrees I could pretty much be mistaken for a bear. These cozy winter textures (shearling, thick knits and felted wool) are all perfect for when you don’t want to get out from under your covers but have to – because you know, work and stuff.

SHOP THE STORY:

These past few days I’ve admittedly been hiding inside of my giant puffer coat – but on days when it’s a bit less frigid this wool striped coat is actually decently warm. Same goes for these shearling-lined booties. And these earmuffs are my absolute favorite thing (a souvenir from our visit to the sheep-filled English countryside – but I linked a nearly identical pair), so delightfully oversized that they just make everything feel more fun. Plus they don’t have that horrible static/flattening effect on my hair that knit hats tend to do. Win, win.

STRIPED TEE AND BLUE VELVET HEELS

The Steele Maiden: Winter Blues - Blue Trousers, Velvet Heels and Striped Tee

Before I they called it Seasonal Affective Disorder (or SAD) – I think they just called it the Winter Blues. From which I most definitely suffer. Between the seemingly endless cold, grey days and the fact that it’s dark by 4:30PM, the winter months always leave me feeling generally a bit lackluster. So my best defense? Force myself to get outside and take advantage of any and all sun, while wearing something happy. Which for me, ironically, means the color blue.

Happy New Year friends! I’m starting off 2017 with a fresh perspective and fresh blooms. At the end of 2016, after a particularly busy and stressful couple of months..  I was feeling a little bit burnt out on ideas for this space. But by the magic of January 1st, today I woke up brimming with new ideas and things I can’t wait to share with you all. As well as a few resolutions of my own.

MIX AND MATCH GINGHAM

Ladylike mix and match gingham midi skirt

Happy February! When I look back on January, most of it was spent in distressed denim and cozy, oversized sweaters (not that I’m complaining..). But because I like a good balance, it felt nice to switch things up a bit and wear something more ladylike to the office last week.
