RED RUFFLE MAXI SKIRT AT THE HISTORIC SHERIDAN INN

Wyoming. Where do I begin?? I’ve got so many photos, stories and video (!!) coming for you next week – but I wanted to share this look as a bit of a sneak peek. Mainly because this red polka dot ruffle maxi skirt would be perfect for a Valentine’s Day outfit next week if you’re still in the market. And also because I’m bursting at the seams to share more about what was one of our most memorable trips ever.

While we were in Sheridan, WY we stayed at the Historic Sheridan Inn and if you’re going to be in those parts – there’s no where else you should even think about staying. Home to Buffalo Bill and his famous western talent show, this place has seen Annie Oakley, Teddy Roosevelt and even Queen Elizabeth through it’s halls. I’ll share photos of the interiors, but for now – just take a look at this long sweeping front porch.

On this particular night, I changed into this fun red ruffle maxi skirt just in time for dinner at the Inn’s Open Range restaurant (easily one of our best meals of the whole trip) followed by live music and a dance in the ballroom (so fun!). I love the way this skirt has so much movement – and while it will be a no-brainer in warm weather, it faired pretty well with thick tights, over the knee boots and a chunky knit sweater. After 7 winters in New York City (and a lifetime on the East Coast) – I think it’s safe to say I’ve learned a thing or two about proper footwear. There are boots that are perfect for light, fluttery snow with a side of somewhat slick streets that I would NEVER think about wearing on the 2nd day after a big snowstorm when the slush is calf-deep off the edge of every single curb. The Steele Maiden: Snow Day Style - Apres Ski Sweater, Red Beret and Plaid Skirt

Still humming ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ after Saturday’s snow. There’s just something about the first snow day of the season in New York City that’s pure magic. Especially when it falls in December and the whole city feels like it’s a Christmas snow globe come to life. I was originally saving this ‘Aprés Ski’ sweater for, well, actual post-skiing attire… but it just felt like I needed to break my own rules and break it in early over the weekend.

SHOP THE STORY

To be completely honest, these photos were hard to take. My hair was getting soaked, Adam was trying to hide the camera lens underneath an umbrella while also dodging cars in the middle of the street and we were both freezing after a couple of minutes. But even though we only got a few good shots, I love that we’ll look back on these photos and remember that day. Laughing and slipping our way through the streets and taking cover in our favorite neighborhood restaurant afterwards to share a drink while the snow blanketed the city outside. While this blog hopefully serves as inspiration for all of you, for us – it reads like a diary. Thanks for reading.

NYFW LOOK 2: PLAID COAT AND DENIM JACKET

NYFW street style - plaid cocoon coat and denim jacket

On Sunday I spent the morning dashing from one cab to another (that biting cold was not good for my wallet) before hunting down my Valentine and a nice warm meal for brunch. I’d been saving this plaid coat for the occasion but once I realized it wouldn’t be enough to combat 1 degree temps I added this denim jacket underneath. 40 degrees this week has never felt so good.

FAUX FUR COLLAR AND CASHMERE LAYERS

Winter style: Faux fur collar and cashmere layers

Somehow, we went from 70 degrees on Christmas Day to ‘I can’t feel my hands, face, anything’ cold over the past couple of days (note: these pictures were taken over the weekend when exposed ankles were still an option). Luckily, layers of cashmere, a warm coat and a dash of faux fur make frigid temps – temporarily – bearable.
