WINTER WHITES WITH TALBOTS

As much as I love a good, colorful holiday moment (exhibit A and exhibit B) – I also love a simple, ‘winter white’ cold weather look.

I love how this ivory faux fur lined parka is neutral enough to go with everything but still really brightens up a dreary winter day (as opposed to my typical black parka that just plain depresses me by the time February rolls around). Perfect for taking a spin around the ice rink.

Speaking of ice skating – this Winter I’m determined to embrace the activities that can only be done in cold weather (instead of spending approximately 3 months wishing for 70 degrees to show up again). Even if that’s just cozying up inside and allowing more time to read, or finally watching a bunch of classic old movies I’ve never seen. Things I’d never do in summer. Winter is exactly the time! And if I do have to actually you know, leave the house, at least I’ll be bundled up in a cute coat.

But really, I finally revealed the before/after of our Fireplace Makeover and am still kind of just staring at it in awe. Home is always what you make of it and a little bit of DIY magic can go a long way in my opinion.

SHERIDAN, WYOMING: MAXI DRESS AND SHEARLING COAT AT THE MINT BAR

Mint Bar, a watering hole for cowboys since 1907, is one of the landmark’s of downtown Sheridan, Wyoming. Stepping underneath the big, bucking neon sign and into the inviting, rustic interiors felt a little bit like stepping back in time. Into one of the saloons of the wild west, where beer and whiskey were plentiful and everyone knew your name. Needless to say, it was one of my favorite places that we visited while in town. And this outfit – with similar nods to cowboy culture was fittingly one of my favorites that I wore while we were on our trip.

It was (unsurprisingly based on the snow you see here) pretty cold while we were in town – so I did my best to strategically layer. For instance, under this maxi dress I was wearing my heat tech leggings, over the knee boots and then the thickest sweater I own over top and this seriously warm faux shearling coat. While I’m definitely ready for warmer weather – there is a certain amount of fun to be had in layering and playing with a mix of textures. Another fun thing? The huge stack of pancakes I had at P.O. News and Cafe down the street after we took these photos. A great local spot that has also been standing for over 100 years and hasn’t lost a lick of it’s charm. IN MY SUITCASE: WYOMING

As you’re reading this, we’re airport-bound on our way to experience Winter in Wyoming. Packing for a Winter trip is decidedly trickier as everything is bulky (I needed a checked bag and a carry-on even though we’ll only be gone through Tuesday) and you really want to be sure you’re prepared for whatever the weather throws at you. I packed plenty of thin layers, cozy basics, warm coats and a few fun accessories that lean in to the Western vibe. Be sure you’re following along on Instagram as I take you with us this trip!

WINTER STYLE: RAINBOW KNIT SWEATER AND OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

My winter wardrobe is fairly neutral – which is why this rainbow knit sweater feels like such a fun addition. A little bit boxy, a little bit 80s, and a lot bit cozy – I lived in this sweater for most of the weekend. And don’t worry Mom, I promise I only unwrapped my scarf and opened up my coat for the 5 minutes it took to snap these photos.

New York feels so cold out right now that wearing anything but my huge puffer jacket and taking a few photos in our neighborhood honestly feels like a chore. So I’m trying my best to have find joy in winter accessories like this fringe scarf and wool beret (see more of my favorites under $50 here) and shoes. Over the knee boots are my secret weapon in the winter – they look stylish but also act as a thick second layer over jeans which I don’t find to be warm at all. I like that this taupe suede pair feels more casual than some of my other pairs and are really walkable for commuting to work.
