PLAID MINI DRESS AND BOW TIGHTS

The Steele Maiden: Cute Holiday Style - Plaid Mini Dress, Bow Tights and OTK Boots

I mentioned on Instagram, but there’s a good chance that this outfit – all 90’s inspired plaid mini dress and sheer bow tights – is too young for me. But there’s an even better chance that I really don’t care. I just can’t resist a few bows at the holidays and my love for plaid mini skirts/dresses is at this point well-documented (latest example here). So who cares right? Life is short.. and in this case – so is my dress.

SHOP THE STORY

These cute bow tights are from Tabbi Socks (I’ve got a fun project coming up with them I’ll be sharing soon) and the velvet bow in my hair is like the cherry on top. It’s an easy way to make this otherwise simple turtleneck and plaid mini dress feel festive and fun for a holiday brunch or tree-trimming party (for the record I’d really like to be invited to one of these – they seem like a good time). And if you’re looking for another simple way to elevate your holiday looks – I shared this twisted half up hairstyle along with 2 other ideas here.

HAT STYLES TO TRY THIS FALL

The Steele Maiden: Fall Hat and Hair Accessories

If you’ve spent any amount of time reading this blog than you likely already know that I really like hats. A summer straw version, a knit beanie in Winter.. you name it. But Fall is really my favorite time to wear a hat. And this season in particular has some really fun new silhouettes that are worth trying out. They’re an easy way to add some personality to your basics and an affordable way to feel trendy without making any big investments. In short, you’ll be seeing me in plenty of hats again this Fall and I don’t want to be the only one having all the fun. Here – my favorite styles:

THE WOOL FEDORA

Classic tan or with a fun pom, you can’t go wrong with a flattering wool fedora

THE FISHERMAN’S CAP

Pair it with a chunky sweater and windblown waves for a nautical inspired feel or a sleek low ponytail and mini skirt for a 1960’s inspired mod moment.

THE BERET

Nothing has the ‘je ne sais quoi’ of a beret in the Fall. I’ll be pairing mine with a fitted knit turtleneck or stripes. Trés bien.

THE BASEBALL CAP

A classic that can feel preppy or sporty depending on how you pair it. Plus, no easier fix for a bad hair day.

THE HAIR ACCESSORY

And one last option in case I still can’t convince you of a hat. Hair accessories are the prettiest alternative.
