We had our first dusting of snow last night in New York (it actually started just as we were finishing these photos) and it was a clear reminder that winter is in fact.. coming. I’d be lying if I said that fact wasn’t a little bit heart-heavy to me, so I’m trying to combat the winter blues with unexpected outerwear options. That means trading my standard coat for a long faux fur vest and wool jacket combo (together they’re just as warm as your duffle coat I swear). And skipping my usual go-to knit beanie for a trés chic wool beret instead.

While I’ve definitely simplified my style over the years, I never find myself drawn to a minimalist aesthetic around the holidays. It just feels like way more fun to take the ‘more is more’ approach. This year I wanted to think beyond your typical red and green and went with a ‘winter whites’ inspired look with hints of navy and festive gold. There’s a point in the season where I stop fretting over the fact that winter is coming and starting being full out incredibly excited for the holidays. The day I put this buffalo plaid cape on was my turning point. The bright red bicycle trimmed like a tree certainly didn’t hurt either.
