October! One of my favorite months of the whole year. New York almost always hands us pitch perfect weather, the leaves turn, it still feels like there is time left before the craze of the holidays sets in and winter is still distant enough for me to go on pretending it will never come. To celebrate, I tossed on alllll the Fall colors and Adam and I took a stroll through Soho one crisp morning before work.
We’ve only had a couple of really warm days so far (you’re welcome to arrive any day now Summer…), but in those few instances I’ve already determined my staples of the season.

The formula is as follows: easy knit, button down dress (that can be worn on or off the shoulder, and dressed up or down), simple leather sandals that are walk-everywhere comfy and a fun straw tote (I love the neutral stripe and round handle on this one). Wear and repeat. Also – these photos remind me of Charleston instead of New York and it makes me desperately want to go back. And not just for the guaranteed summer weather (see my full travel guide to the city here). I think it’s time I plan a Summer getaway, since I already know what I’ll be packing.
Ankle-baring weather in February? I’ll take it. Actually I’ll take a free pass straight into April but that’s another (less likely) story.

This is always the time of year where I’m so sick of winter-wear but the weather isn’t nearly compatible for spring clothing. So I’m shopping my own closet. All of these pieces I’ve had and loved for at least a few seasons. These cropped gingham trousers were one of my favorite pairs from last Spring so I couldn’t wait to dust them off again. Along with a lighter leather jacket and my favorite slingback heels from last Fall and this green satchel that I’ve had for a couple of years and keep coming back to. Eventually I’ll get excited about the prospect of new clothes but in the meantime I’ll be re-mixing some of my old favorites and saving my pennies for Spring.
I’ve never really been in to the ‘traditional’ Valentine’s Day routine (a fancy restaurant.. a dozen roses.. box of chocolates…). In fact, when I look back on the years that Adam and I have spent celebrating together they range from sneaking sparklers and margaritas onto the beach at midnight in Santa Monica to taking a train up to snow-covered Montreal for just one night to ice skating in Central Park then grabbing milkshakes at an old-fashioned soda shop in the West Village.
It’s usually a last minute spontaneous plan and sometimes it’s a date that lasts an entire day. Which is why this pink velvet skirtcaught my eye. It would be great for a more casual Valentine’s Day outfit and could transition from day to night. But it also works if you hate Valentine’s Day and ignore the ‘holiday’ altogether. It’s just a cute skirt and it’s on major sale and who can really argue with that?

We shot these photos last weekend when we were handed a very mild Winter weather day – but if you don’t get as lucky come February 14th, just add thick knit tights and a big coat overtop of the rest. And on another note – whether or not you have a soulmate – these navy suede bootscould absolutely be your ‘solemate’ (I couldn’t resist…) because you order them specifically for not just your shoe size but also your calf size – meaning the perfect fit. Not too tight, not too slouchy. Now that’s a match made in heaven.
Still humming ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ after Saturday’s snow. There’s just something about the first snow day of the season in New York City that’s pure magic. Especially when it falls in December and the whole city feels like it’s a Christmas snow globe come to life. I was originally saving this ‘Aprés Ski’ sweaterfor, well, actual post-skiing attire… but it just felt like I needed to break my own rules and break it in early over the weekend.

To be completely honest, these photos were hard to take. My hair was getting soaked, Adam was trying to hide the camera lens underneath an umbrella while also dodging cars in the middle of the street and we were both freezing after a couple of minutes. But even though we only got a few good shots, I love that we’ll look back on these photos and remember that day. Laughing and slipping our way through the streets and taking cover in our favorite neighborhood restaurant afterwards to share a drink while the snow blanketed the city outside. While this blog hopefully serves as inspiration for all of you, for us – it reads like a diary. Thanks for reading.
