BEST OF: HOLIDAY SHOES

Is there anything more fun than holiday shoes? Sparkles, satin, plaid, bows – gangs all here. While these are obviously begging to be taken out to a holiday party, I argue that you’ll get lots more bang for your buck (and feel infinitely more festive) if you wear a pair all throughout the season. Try sparkly mary-janes with jeans and a cozy knit. Or a fancy pair of booties with a simple sweater dress. And when you’re ready to go all out on New Year’s Eve – you’ll have already broken in your dancing shoes.

GINGHAM PANTS AND LEATHER MOTO JACKET

The Steele Maiden: Gingham Pants and Leather Jacket

Ankle-baring weather in February? I’ll take it. Actually I’ll take a free pass straight into April but that’s another (less likely) story.

SHOP THE STORY

This is always the time of year where I’m so sick of winter-wear but the weather isn’t nearly compatible for spring clothing. So I’m shopping my own closet. All of these pieces I’ve had and loved for at least a few seasons. These cropped gingham trousers were one of my favorite pairs from last Spring so I couldn’t wait to dust them off again. Along with a lighter leather jacket and my favorite slingback heels from last Fall and this green satchel that I’ve had for a couple of years and keep coming back to. Eventually I’ll get excited about the prospect of new clothes but in the meantime I’ll be re-mixing some of my old favorites and saving my pennies for Spring.

CLOSET CLASSICS: TRENCH COAT AND DISTRESSED DENIM

The Steele Maiden: Closet Classics - Trench Coat and Distressed Denim

This weekend the weather allowed for exposed ankles. And I was ecstatic about it. I’m trying not to wish for Spring too soon, but let’s just say I’ll take a 50 degree with sunshine anytime January feels like dishing them out.

SHOP THE STORY

I’ve been thinking a lot about what my personal ‘closet classics’ are ever since this post and this trench coat, cap toe heels and distressed denim definitely all make the cut. In fact the only things that’s new here is this pretty lavender silk neck scarf. That and my Instax polaroid camera that I got for Christmas and is proving to be just as much fun as I anticipated. I’ve been dropping it in my purse and snapping little New York moments that would otherwise be fleeting. It’s good to play tourist in your own town.

CASUAL THANKSGIVING DAY OUTFIT

The Steele Maiden: Casual Thanksgiving Day Outfit - Glitter Sweater, Cropped Jeans and Kitten Heels

As much as I love a fancy dress or twirl-worthy skirt for the holidays, my family tends to keep it pretty casual. So I’m always looking for ways to feel festive but not overly done up. And let’s be honest – after a round of seconds and dessert on Thanksgiving day – I’m adding the casual dress code as yet another thing I’m thankful for.

SHOP THE STORY

I picked up this neutral, metallic thread sweater for just $20 the other week and while it adds a fun touch of shine – it’s essentially just as comfortable as wearing a sweatshirt. Same goes for the relaxed fit,  cropped jeans that I paired with these leopard print kitten heels (see how I dressed them up here). And then – to make the whole thing feel like I put in a little effort – this velvet turban headband and loose waves (full holiday hair tutorial here). Put together enough for a group photo with family/friends at the table, but could also handle a post turkey-coma nap. Now pass the pumpkin pie.

DATE NIGHT STYLE IN A RUFFLE ONE SHOULDER TOP

The Steele Maiden: Date Night Style with Parker New York

A lot of my wardrobe translates pretty easily from work to weekend. But sometimes, an article of clothing comes along that says – date night or bust baby. This pink, ruffled, one shoulder top does exactly that. And who am I to deny it?
