It’s become a little tradition with Adam and I to have a NYC staycation over Memorial Day weekend. The city all but empties out and it’s fun to kick off Summer in the city where we live and love. Sunday the streets felt deserted and I hit the pavement in this little red dress.
Happy Memorial Day! I’m in the midst of a 3-day staycation here in New York so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Kicking off Summer in double denim and white on white for an easy weekend or casual date night look.
After a few days spent in head-turning sequins, blending into my surroundings didn’t seem so bad. I got this lace cutout sweatshirt last Spring and it’s great for days when you want to be presentable but secretly super comfortable. Same goes for a pair of tailored shorts. And then in the ultimate minimal, finishing touch – these architectural black and white mules. Like little skyscrapers you can wear.
Like it or not – we’re officially in wedding season. Last year alone, I attended bridal showers, bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners and oh yeah, actual weddings. And want to know how many dresses I purchased to get me through all those? The answer is too many. So this year – I decided to do things differently. And with the help of French Connection I chose a single dress. So over the next few days, I’m showing you how to wear this modern-day mermaid concoction for every different nuptial related event you may find yourself staring at an invite for this season. And even better – French Connection is giving the same dress to one lucky reader, so enter below!
When I was thinking of what dress would be my hero piece of the season I knew it needed to have the ability to lightly layer, go with accessories I already owned, be comfortable and also a bit of a statement. This shimmery, curve-hugging number fit the bill perfectly. For a bridal shower I would pair it with this flutter sleeve top (for the record: I’m totally okay with wearing a touch of white to a shower as a guest, but would make it a second runner to another color, and try to avoid white lace in general to wedding related events), comfortable gold wedges, a small cross-body bag and loose low ponytail. Check back tomorrow when I head to a rehearsal dinner and change things up completely.
I knew that once I picked up this white denim jacket there would be no turning back. And especially now that the weather is nothing short of glorious, I’m more than ready to swap out all my darker colors in favor of bright whites.
