EARLY ACCESS: NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE

Striped Shirt, Floral skirt and Sole Society tote bag

I talk about it every year, but the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (early access for card holders began yesterday and the sale opens to everyone on July 22nd) is truly my favorite sale of the year because it offers major discounts on all the new Fall products before the season starts (instead of discounts on say, bathing suits at the end of August that you’ll have to wait another year to wear).

With that in mind, each year I try to strategically think about the key pieces that are on my wish list for the season ahead as well as a few trendier pieces that I know will be ‘must haves’ and scoop them up during the sale. Plus, aside from Fall pieces is an awesome time to score a deal on that designer bag or sunglasses you’ve been eyeing (this pair in particular has been on my ‘lust-list’ for awhile), quality athletic wear, and amazing beauty buys (how gorgeous are these colors?!).

So if you’re a card holder like me then game on. And if not, now is the time to do some browsing so you can be ready to grab things when the sale opens to the public – because things sell out quickly at that point!

(pictured above and also part of the #NSale – this Sole Society tote in the perfect shade of ‘greige’ – that’s fashion speak for grey/beige)

SHOP MY FAVORITE COMBOS BELOW:

Flared overalls (trust me on these) with sneakers, a ribbed sweater and ‘greige’ tote (perfect for weekend road trips)

Snakeskin and suede crossbody bag, wrap skirt and metallic oxfords (I’d wear this to go from desk to drinks)

Striped button down, pinafore romper, duster coat and lace-up heels (obsessed with a dusty rose and burgundy color combo for late Summer/early Fall)

Wool beret, floral slipdress, embossed leather bag and suede over the knee boots (has a kind of Parisian meets 90s feel)

Quilted bomber jacket, denim mini skirt and rain boots (almost too cute to save for a rainy day)

*I’ll be sharing exactly what I’m picking up once I hit ‘checkout’ plus more of my top picks throughout the sale!

DENIM CULOTTE JUMPSUIT

Denim Culotte Jumpsuit and Ankle Strap Heels

Denim. Culotte. Jumpsuit. Three words that honestly should not work together. But there it was wavering in my online shopping cart. Should I? Shouldn’t I? And then I went and tried the thing on. And turns out.. it does work. Magically so.

SPRING SHIRTS AND BLOUSES

Every year around this time I try to do a major spring closet cleaning. I unpack my warm weather clothes (kept packed away neatly in cloth baskets on higher shelves all winter) and take a look at what I really loved from the season prior and what I never did get around to wearing. Then I make a keep/donate/sell sorting system and re-stock my closet from there. It feels great not only to rid myself of things I’ve hung on to for too long (and give them to a new home), but it also serves as a clear indicator of what I truly need. Since spring shopping tends to have me all – dresses! heels! – it’s good to be able to truly asses what I need before I even think of adding something new. I tackled the challenge a couple of weekends ago and what I noticed I really need are neutral, go with jeans on a Saturday or a nice pencil skirt on a Tuesday, kind of shirts and blouses. Here – a few of the ones that caught my eye – all of them less than $100, but most of them less than $50!

OFFICE STYLE: MIDI SKIRT AND NECK SCARF

Office Style in French Connection navy midi skirt and ankle strap heels

And there goes the weekend. Adam and I spent most of it relaxing, trying out a new (to us) Mexican restaurant in our neighborhood – because margaritas – and enjoying the 60 degree temps (in between downpours that is) that swept through yesterday. Since it’s supposed to be chilly again this week, I’ll be bundled up at the office in a version of this outfit that includes a few extra layers.

WHAT TO WEAR: NEW YEAR’S EVE

While I still can’t quite believe that Christmas is this week, I’m having an even harder time believing that the end of 2015 is just around the corner! But before the year slips away, it’s time to pull out some sequins, dust off your dancing shoes and celebrate the last 365 days. Adam and I hid out in his family’s cabin last NYE but this year feels like one to go out and sip champagne with the rest of New York. Here, a few outfit ideas to get you in the mood. I’m loving this sequin shift (40% off right now!) with tassel earrings and embellished heels – or this cutout lace mini with metallic clutch and a pair of strappy heels.
