BEST OF: HOLIDAY SHOES

Is there anything more fun than holiday shoes? Sparkles, satin, plaid, bows – gangs all here. While these are obviously begging to be taken out to a holiday party, I argue that you’ll get lots more bang for your buck (and feel infinitely more festive) if you wear a pair all throughout the season. Try sparkly mary-janes with jeans and a cozy knit. Or a fancy pair of booties with a simple sweater dress. And when you’re ready to go all out on New Year’s Eve – you’ll have already broken in your dancing shoes.

SUMMER SEPARATES WITH SAKS OFF 5TH

The Steele Maiden: Floral Mini Skirt and Denim Jacket

While I’m naturally more drawn to dresses, I always find that the separates in my closet are the ones that get the most wear. A denim jacket, a printed floral mini skirt and a white sweater tank are all pieces that can be mixed and matched with just about everything else I own. And worn from season to season. Which is perfect because it felt like October yesterday?!

WARWICK, NEW YORK: BOYFRIEND JEANS AND ANKLE BOOTS

The Steele Maiden: Fall foliage wearing cable knit turtleneck, boyfriend jeans and ankle boots

On Sunday, Adam and I took advantage of a rare day without plans and took a drive out of the city. We ended up in the town of Warwick, New York after stopping at a nearby pumpkin patch/apple orchard – because apple cider donuts.. obviously. It feels like the trees have barely changed here in the city, so it was fun to see the all out explosion of color happening just an hour north of us. I picked up these boyfriend jeans (or ‘Mom jeans’  as Adam lovingly calls them..) earlier in the weekend and paired them with these slip-on ankle boots and cable knit turtleneck sweater that I got for our trip to Maine.

BACK TO SCHOOL STYLE: ANTHROPOLOGIE FRINGE SWEATSHIRT AND OXFORDS

Back to School Style: Anthropologie Fringe Sweatshirt and Tan Leather Oxfords

No matter how many years pass since I’ve actually attended classes, I can never shake that ‘Back to School’ feeling this time of year. Not only did Back to School shopping mean all new supplies (don’t get me started on how much my sister and I loved picking out freshly sharpened pencils and blank notebooks) but it also guaranteed a few brand new outfits for that last week of August when we begrudgingly caught the bus again. A lot has changed since I went back to 1st grade, 5th grade, 10th grade or even off to college.. but my love for a cool sweatshirt, leather oxfords and great bag has remained firmly in place.
