Out of all the seasons, I wear the most color in the summer; cherry reds, ocean blue, sunflower yellow. But no one can argue that the easiest colors to wear – no matter the season – are black and white. And denim.. which is basically a neutral right? The trick is making them still feel fun and summer-y. A fringe tote, palm print sneakers or lightweight tank sweaterare just the things.
If you’re anything like me, than you’re already in full out holiday mode. Between the long weekend, putting the finishing touches on part 2 of my ‘Complete Guide to the Holidays’ (coming soon! check out part one here) and the fact that I can now listen to Christmas music without shame.. practically everything is tinsel-trimmed from now through New Years. But realistically, I’m not wearing a holiday party dress every day. That’s where this cozy oversized poncho and floral bootiescome in handy.
As evidenced on this blog countless times, a denim jacket is my go-to when it comes to lightweight jackets. Sure, there’s been a blazer or a cargo jacket here and there, but for the most part I stick to the basics. But sometimes you want something that feels a little more interesting, something cooler than the usual suspects. Enter – the kimono. The spring jacket you definitely don’t already have in your closet, and definitely need.
There’s something ironic about standing outside of an ice cream shop in the freezing cold. But that’s exactly where I found myself yesterday and although I didn’t order a cone, I did stay warm thanks to a few careful layers.
I was originally going to show these outfits in two separate posts – but when I noticed that both featured a casual plaid top, distressed denim and loafers.. I figured they were meant to be twinning together. Turns out this is my go-to weekend look because for the past two Saturdays I’ve reached for some variation. Comfortable, casual and a tiny bit holiday-inspired? A winning combo in my book.
An easy flannel button-down is a staple this time of year and when you pair it with a v-neck tee (these are my absolute favorite) there’s almost nothing more comfortable. This look is pretty no frills, so I added these holiday loafers (they’re embroidered with a car carrying a christmas tree on one foot and a tree-lined road on the other!) to put a little extra pep in my step. I’m definitely wearing these when we go to pick out our tree this weekend.
