I’ve been excited for the chance to stop in Nashville for months now.  Aside from being a country music fan, the city just seems to exude such an easy confidence.  When packing, I stuck closely to the 3 Nashville classics: Denim, Leather and Boots.  Luckily all three happen to be huge for Fall, so whether or not you get the chance to swing through Music City, I think the above would apply.  For the office, go understated and streamlined (just a touch of leather will do here).  For the weekend, go lived in and comfortable (those Madewell fringe booties had me at hello).  And for a night out, go all out in a flirty mix of prints.  Cover up on top so that your legs can do the talking, and of course – be sure to choose boots that were made for walking (I couldn’t help myself…).

(Denim: Theory Office; J.Crew Night Out; AE Weekend)
(Leather: Ann Taylor Office; NastyGal Night Out; Urban Outfitters Weekend)
(Boots: Aldo Office; Shoemint Night Out; Madewell Weekend)

Washington, D.C.

The first day and night of my cross country road trip was spent in Washington D.C., a place geographically not that far from home, but a city that I’d never really had the chance to explore.  The boy and I spent the majority of the day sightseeing (including checking out Julia Child’s kitchen at the Smithsonian), but spent the evening in the much less touristy U Street area (where we stopped by Foundry, a well curated new and vintage home goods shop and had a seriously delicious selection of tapas at Estadio).  We stayed the night at The Donovan House, where both our modern room as well as the rooftop bar looked out over Thomas Circle.  Definitely worth passing through.

Today is my last day at home before being on the road for 2 weeks, followed by 3 months in a furnished sublease.  When I finally come to be in my own place at the end of the year, I can imagine that I will be quite eager to make the place feel like home.  My interior taste tends to look something like the workspace pictured above (a mainly grayscale backdrop, modern grounding pieces mixed with a few vintage items, pops of color, finished off with pattern and personal momentos thrown in for visual interest).  This also happens to loosely translate to my personal style, an interpretation seen at right.  So until I have a place to truly call home again, I’ll just be wearing it.
