First of all, I hope that the weather was as beautiful wherever you are as it was here in New York this weekend. We used Friday night’s rain as an excuse to finally tackle the lingering areas of our apartment that were yet to be organized (there’s now a lovely little ‘reading nook’ just waiting to be put to use in our bedroom) which left the rest of the weekend free to run about in the sunshine. I spent Saturday afternoon having a picnic in Central Park with a few girlfriends, Saturday night out in the East Village (if you’re in the area – try Sigmund’s for craft beer and gourmet soft pretzels – they had me at hello), and Sunday checking out the new 9/11 memorial downtown and hanging out in Battery Park City. If this is a taste of what our Summer in the city is going to be like, I love it already.
1 necklace, 5 ways with Lulu Frost
Have I mentioned that I like, really like my job? This past week I got to pitch in on a blog post for Lulu Frost showing how to wear our Poseidon Necklace 5 ways, over the course of 5 days. I think a lot of people are under the misconception that a statement necklace can only be worn once in awhile, but by changing out the outfit and layering with other jewelry, I got away with wearing this one for nearly a week straight. We’ll be sharing all 5 looks over on the Lulu blog later today (you may recognize some outfits from around here – I’m a proud repeat offender when it comes to pieces I love) but I thought I’d give you a fun little sneak peek here. Because if there ever was a day to spend lusting over pretty jewelry, it’s Friday.
rain forest
Yesterday was one of those evenings that came with the kind of rain that barely requires an umbrella – but you still better be carrying one. A lesson I’ve quickly re-learned since leaving the inherently sunny West Coast for the volatile weather that lives back here on the East Coast. The thing with a chance of rain is that you can either give in to it and hide inside wearing your pajamas, or you can put on a fabulous, tropical, belongs in a rain forest, printed and pleated dress and take a spin around the city. Since this dress showed up on my doorstep yesterday (a lovely coincidental birthday present from my friends at Darling Clothes), I chose the latter. Can you blame me?

texture trick
Between celebrating my sister’s wedding this past weekend, my birthday yesterday, and battling a bit of a flu since Sunday – I haven’t had too many spare moments. I’ll be back with more tomorrow (the weather’s turned and suddenly my closet seems fresh with things to wear), but for today I’m going to keep things short and sweet. But introducing this incredible lace sweatshirt just couldn’t wait. You already know I love pieces that mix something traditionally casual (a slouchy sweatshirt) and something typically dressy (lace), but I think it’s the texture here that really gets me. Mixed with the gingham, which has a bit of it’s own visual texture, and the pebbled leather of my favorite work tote and this seemingly simple look is suddenly something worth sharing.

in the garden
Last weekend Adam and I explored, what I venture to guess is Central Park’s best kept secret – the Conservatory Gardens. Located wayyy uptown, the trip is worth it once you’ve wandered through the expansive paths – pouring with colorful flowers this time of year. Naturally, I thought a playful print mix and bold colors were fitting. I’ve had this bird printed top for years but every Spring feels right to pull it out again. This time around I paired it with my favorite gingham skirt (last seen here), and a primary bag and pumps. Even though I’m a downtown girl now, I’ll definitely be making this trip again.
