One of the things I love most about being back in New York (and the East Coast in general), is the shift in seasons. It’s as if overnight everything changes – cool mornings give way to hot nights and with it my Springtime obsession for pastels has faded. Now all I want is bold, saturated color. Marigold yellow, cherry red, grass green – this is the palette of Summer. These tropical printed shorts I picked up last weekend are the perfect base for playing with other colorful extras like these retro wooden sandals from my friends at Restricted, bright lipstick and sunny statement earrings. Chambray and loose waves (sort of a signature at this point) rounded out the look.
p.s. if you want to get ‘just got off the beach’ waves for yourself – be sure to enter my giveaway with Gloss48 here – 2 lucky winners will win a gift card to pick up hair products like this or anything else their Summer-loving hearts desire.
Now that we’re finally in the full swing of Summer (and may I add just how seriously glorious that is), its time to switch up my beauty routine a bit. Between the warm weather and my packed schedule, minimum is crucial but if I’m using fewer products they really need to count. Enter Gloss48, a membership sale site that offers a rotating selection of amazing beauty products. Already, I’ve found the perfect ‘just got off the beach’ salt spray for my hair from Clarisea (for saying goodbye to that hot hairdryer), bright punchy lip gloss from Amour (which balances out wearing next to no makeup otherwise), and all natural, seriously long-lasting nail color from Beauty for Real (for sandal ready pedicures). You could get lost in this site so naturally, I had to share. Two lucky winners will win a $25 gift card to pick up a selection of their own Summer beauty essentials – good luck!
If there’s ever been a question of what to wear for a night out in Manhattan – the answer has always been all black plus a few great accessories. It’s a no fail combo that I fell back on this past weekend for a girl’s night out – grabbing a pair of often worn skinny jeans and tank, adding my highest ankle strap stilettos, favorite vintage bags – and then to keep things from becoming entirely predictable these Loren Hope knockout statement earrings. You all know I love a good statement necklace, but the statement earring feels totally cool right now and a bit unexpected against the simplicity of black basics and a not too sleek ponytail. Below I’ve rounded up a few other stiletto and statement earring combos I’m loving right now – because, well, it’s Friday and is any other really excuse needed?
p.s. We’re headed out to Adam’s lake house this weekend so be sure you’re following me here to see what I’m packing and my (most likely failed) attempts at water-skiing.
Since our office switched hours for the Summer (4 longer days followed by 3 glorious days off) and New York has started to really warm up – it’s more important than ever to be able to have standby outfits to grab in the morning and get out the door. This pencil skirt (which I admittedly also own in a gingham print last seen here) has been one of those key pieces ever since I picked it up earlier this Spring. In fact, the first way I wore it was paired with tights and a scarf. But now, it makes the perfect match for a fun floral blouse, and one that is actually supposed to be wrinkled might I add – because honestly who wants to deal with ironing in the morning?
Although my style is usually pretty consistent, I find myself sometimes ending up on one extreme or the other. Take yesterday for example – floral femme in a bright white shift and pretty pinks and purples with photos taken in picturesque Central Park. So naturally the following day all I wanted to wear was a slightly wrinkled t-shirt, cutoffs and sneakers for pictures taken by this overly affirmative mural under an overpass in Brooklyn. It’s good to balance things out right? You all know I love a good pair of heels (some of my favorite Summer pairs here) but we walked through the outer borough for something like 5 miles on Sunday and nothing but a pair of slip on sneakers would do. Can I get a hell yes?
