The Steele Maiden: Printed bomber jacket and skater skirt
I’m keeping today’s post short and sweet, partially because its Friday (and everything should be kept short until the real weekend begins) and partially because if I had to describe this outfit it would probably be ‘short and sweet’.  I love that this amazing hummingbird printed bomber jacket (a collaboration between British brand Oasis and artist Peter Ting) bridges the gap between sporty and feminine.  And the rest is just your typical chambray shirt, skater skirt and knee sock trifecta I’ve been known to wear from time to time.  It’s funny because a year ago this combo felt very ‘me’ but recently I’ve felt myself start to gravitate towards more streamlined silhouettes.  We’ll see where it leads.  All I know is right now – Friday is leading to the weekend and I’m more than ready. Be sure to follow me on instagram for a look at what adventures I get into!

The Steele Maiden: Wool Hats and Baseball Caps for Fall
I’ve long since been a fan of hats (I’ve had this one and this one on repeat since last Fall), and so I’m pretty thrilled with all of the amazing options out there right now.  Most of which are under $50 might I add! I’ve got my eye on a cool baseball cap, a bright fedora and another wool floppy hat to add to my slowly growing collection.  There’s just something about a hat that makes a whole outfit look more purposeful.  Not to mention it’s a no fail bad hair day fix.  Can I get an amen?

The Steele Maiden: check plaid dress and trench coat
I feel like Nancy Drew in this outfit and I’m pretty okay with it.  In fact, if being a stylish sleuth means I get to wear plaid dresses, trench coats, block heels and tortoiseshell glasses every day than I’m totally on board.  I’ve been wearing my share of plaid lately (here and here) but I like that this dress feels less casual than it’s checked counterparts.  And these gold heeled shoes are always a fun exclamation point on an otherwise pretty classic outfit. The finishing touch here is my glasses, which I wear for distance but rarely show here on the blog.  That will probably be changing now that I picked up this pair of just oversized enough frames.  I used newly launched site Felix & Iris and can’t say enough good things (home try-ons, tons of cute options..).  And looking like you’re smart enough to crack the case is never a bad thing, right?

the right fluff

The Steele Maiden: Textured mini skirt and colorblock cardigan
We’re still in the magical time of year here in New York where light jackets and sweaters are needed, but you can get away with bare legs.  And since that’s basically my idea of the perfect outfit, I’ve been reveling in it.  Especially when bare legs are paired with this 1960’s Jean Shrimpton meets 1990’s Cher Horowitz miniskirt.  I mean it’s baby blue. And fluffy. And a-line. And basically the stuff of dreams.  I let the skirt steal the show here and otherwise went for a few of my favorite closet classics – a white silk button down, colorblock cardigan, ankle boots, and wool panama hat.  You know, the stuff of day to day life.  But how boring would life be if you didn’t throw in a fluffy skirt now and then?

p.s. I’m majorly itching for a hair switch (hence it being covered with a hat and tucked away into my collar…) and am thinking either blonder with Bardot bangs or dark brown and a bit shorter (eek!).  Thoughts?
