pink punk

The Steele Maiden: Neon Pink Beanie and Nike High Tops
As far as street cred goes, in my furry pom hats and flippy little skirts.. I don’t have much. But I have a soft spot for specialty sneakers, even if I don’t break them out very often (I’ve had these since college!). With black jeans and a neon beanie, I kept the rest of the details – pops of pink, loose curls and a fuzzy sweater – extra feminine to balance things out. In other news – who else is headed into a 3 day weekend?  I’ve got plans to try a barre class (anyone else tried this? I’m nervous/excited), clean up the apartment, finish the book I’m halfway through (Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore), and maybe hit up some of the killer sales I keep getting e-mails for (Loft and Ruche are on my list). What about you?

The Steele Maiden: Best of Cold Weather Accessories
The bright side about still having several months of Winter left to endure, is that almost all of the clothing and accessories meant for the season are majorly discounted (helloo 60% off sale items at Piperlime). Last week I highlighted a few of my favorite boot options, and since I noticed that almost all of my posts these days have featured cold weather accessories I figured I’d spotlight them as well.  A bold hat, pretty plaid scarf, or luxe faux fur accent are all perfect for adding a bit of interest when you’re stuck wearing the same winter jacket day after day. Anyone else have any tricks for surviving Winter? I’m all ears.

boys club

The Steele Maiden: Boyfriend jeans and Aerie blanket scarf
As far as laid-back looks go, this is about as ‘borrowed from the boys’ as I get. But on an early Sunday morning when I have a to-do list a mile long – sometimes these faded, ripped, and paint splattered (all hard-earned from years of actual washes, falls, and home projects thank you very much) jeans, leather bomber and rumpled sweatshirt are all I want to reach for. This blanket scarf was on repeat throughout the holidays, but paired with black and baby blue it tones down the Christmas-y vibes. And to keep the whole thing from looking too much like I possibly slept in it – red lipstick and cherry red heels.

out of the woods

The Steele Maiden: Over the Knee Boots and oversized layers
Last week was relatively quiet here on the blog – because in news I’m sure you already know.. it’s been cold here in New York. Like ‘can’t be outside for more than a few minutes without cursing the weather’ cold. But things warmed up to ‘can be outside for a few minutes with piled on layers and hidden hand-warmers’ cold this weekend and so I hiked up my blogger boots and got back out there. The silver lining of braving the cold? Not many others do it. So on Sunday, Adam and I took a long walk through Central Park and at times, had the place all to ourselves. Just the bare trees, leftover snow, and golden sun – which if you can get over the low temperature – is really, pretty beautiful. Enough about the weather though – I wore this leopard coat (a closet standout), these OTK boots I picked up last year, and my favorite floppy hat for a sort of 1975 meets 2015 thing. Happy Monday friends.

best of winter boots

The Steele Maiden: Best of Winter Boots
Unless you haven’t left the house in a few days (or live in Hawaii) you may have noticed that Winter has really planted its feet. So just in time – I give you my round up of the best boots for every occasion over the course of these next few cold months. That means a sleek block heel bootie for work, a killer pair of navy suede over the knee boots for weekend play, and – when the snow really piles up – a waterproof, extra warm pair of lace up, fur lined boots.  My best advice to surviving Winter? New shoes, of course.
