TRAVEL GUIDE TO COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

Visitors Guide to Copenhagen, Denmark

I had been dreaming of visiting Copenhagen, Denmark for ages – with it’s winding streets, colorful homes, streamlined design. And it didn’t disappoint. While I’ve already shared some of what I wore while visiting (here, here and here) I wanted to share a more detailed photo diary and insight into some of my favorites destinations in the city.

It would be impossible to come to Copenhagen and not visit Nyhavn (or New Harbor) – a colorful waterfront row of restaurants and bars that is probably the most photographed stretch of the city. On a sunny day it will undoubtedly be crowded, but grab a sandwich, sit along the docked boats and ignore the rest of the tourists and the visit is totally worth it.

A 10-15 minute walk from Nyhavn you’ll find yourself at the Round Tower – the oldest functioning observatory in all of Europe. Pay a small entry free (around $5 USD) and round your way to the top for a view over the entire city. Stop at nearby Paludan Bog & Cafe for a delicious brunch at a cafe that doubles as a library.

For a further look at the city’s history – wander down Snaregade (the oldest documented street in the city) and afterwards head to Cafe Europa for a coffee and pastry just a quick step from the shopping district.

If you’re looking for a neighborhood to stay – we loved Vesterbro (we stayed in this Airbnb and can’t say enough good things). About a 20 minute walk from the city center it offered a perfect escape from the more crowded downtown areas and was full of young Danish couples & families, cute shops and great restaurants. We tried Neighborhood for Denmark’s traditional, super thin crust pizza and Von Fressen – a charming little bar that served up great cocktails by the friendliest staff.

And if you’re willing to walk and want to go beyond the tourist spots – Kastellet is the city’s star shaped military fortress dating back to the 1600s that also now serves as a beautiful park (including a picture perfect windmill!) and Superkilen is a park meets modern art exhibit in the area of Norrebro that makes for some pretty wild photo ops (seen here).

BEST OF: FALL SALES

Fall Sale Instagram Round Up

As I’m writing this I’m curled up by the fire at my parent’s house in PA. Which basically is the very coziest way to spend a Sunday. Another good way to spend the afternoon? Online shopping. There are some killer sales happening right now which is perfectly timed since the weather looks like we’ll be saying goodbye to bare legs and light jackets very soon. Below a few of my favorites..

(Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3, Photo 4, Photo 5, Photo 6)

Anthropologie – Sales are few and far between here, but this weekend they’re offering 20% off all full-priced apparel w/ code FALLFUN. I’m wearing this dark orange turtleneck in photo 4 above and am obsessing over this vest.

French Connection – Save 30% off all coats and jackets with code FC30CJ – I wear this denim jacket (in photos 3 and 5) constantly and swear I’m going to finally pull the trigger on this leather moto jacket today.

LOFT – 40% off sweaters and tops – this slouchy sweater would get a ton of wear and I love the mixed print on this top.

J.Crew – 30% off outerwear, sweaters, shirts and t-shirts w/ code LAYERUP – now would be a great time to purchase a winter coat like this one or this one.

Ruche –  Extra 40% off sale items with code EXTRA40 – I’m loving this marigold color for Fall and this floral dress would be so pretty paired with tights and a berry lipstick.

Nine West – 40% off select fall styles – these black pointy toe boots add instant chic (shown in photo 6) and these Chelsea boots are a total wardrobe classic.

Madewell – Extra 40% off sale items with code EXTRA40 – this cardigan (shown in photo 1) is a total steal and I’ve worn it at least once a week since picking it up and this plaid scarf would add a cozy touch to any outfit.

Talbots – 30-40% off select fall styles – I’ve been loving this teal slouchy sweater paired with this paisley scarf and this quilted cross-body bag (shown in photo 2) has been a favorite of mine so far this Fall.

COPENHAGEN: SOLE SOCIETY SCARF AND BOOTIES

Copenhagen: Sole Society Plaid Wrap and Stacked heel booties

When you’re living out of a suitcase, I try and focus on a handful of classics – like a striped shirt and black pleated skirt – and then mix things up with statement accessories – like this plaid scarf/wrap and red sunglasses.

COPENHAGEN: PAIGE DENIM AND OTK BOOTS

Copenhagen, Denmark: Paige Denim and OTK Boots

One of the places I knew I wanted to venture in Copenhagen was a place called Superkilen – a surreal looking park in an off the beaten path neighborhood called Norrebro (about an hour’s walk from city center). The area was void of tourists and had a bit of an edge to it.. but seeing the park in person, snapping these shots and then watching the neighborhood skater kids ride those lines was well worth the trek.
