I think the color red gets a bad rap sometimes, pegged for being overly sexy. I happen to love bright red in a French bookish schoolgirl kinda way. So this weekend, wear a swipe of red lipstick while you read a favorite book – or skip the sidewalks carrying a red satchel while singing along to Taylor Swift. It may not be Angelina Jolie in a red dress – but you just might break a few hearts anyway.
Happy Friday!

Happy November! After my pumpkin overload (and the fact that we didn’t get even ONE trick or treater last night) I’m welcoming November with open arms. Slightly cooler temps here in Southern California have me eager to wear a shorts and tights get up, blazer/skirt combo or classic crewneck sweater look. All of the above (from up and coming New York designer Maggy Frances) get November so right.

As an East Coast native, I’ve spent the past few days checking in with friends and family as Hurricane Sandy hits. While I certainly don’t suggest going out in that particular climate, in more reasonable conditions I think rain is no reason to hide. Just the opposite, puddles be damned, I love the idea of throwing on a billowing maxi dress (white cotton easily washes and dries after all) and taking to the streets. Just be sure to layer on a bright anorak, rain booties, and a waterproof bag. The result should show that even in the face of a storm – you haven’t lost your sense of humor.
