As we speak there’s cornbread in the oven, soup on the stove and soon to be a fire in the fireplace. In other words my idea of a perfect Fall night. This weekend I took things pretty slow after a whirlwind few days in New York and coming home to lots of exciting projects in the works here in The Steele Maiden world. While I tend to easily get caught up in working all of the time – it’s good practice to purposefully set aside time for reading, finding a new park or just relaxing at home. It means tomorrow, I’m ready to hit the ground running.
If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time you know by now that Ruche is one of my favorite online retailers. One of those sites that I can always count on for tempting me with their New Arrivals (like this or this), inspiring me with their beautiful lookbooks and features, or encouraging me to style the items in my closet a new way. So when they contacted me to say they’d chosen me as their ‘Ruchette of the Month’? Well I was pretty much beyond thrilled. Be sure to visit their blog here to read the full interview (where I admit to carrying candy in my purse and take a stand against trousers) and don’t blame me if you fall in love with more than a few things from their site. Thank you Ruche!!There are so many good things happening around here these days that it seems fitting moving into November (a month so focused on giving thanks) to feel so grateful. Thanks for all of your continued support, I’ve got lots more in store!
Ever since I got a taste of real Fall weather on the East Coast last weekend I’ve been longing for the endless layering options those temperatures call for. While Los Angeles has been chillier at night, the days are still fairly warm so I’m bridging the gap with light layers. I mentioned this vest as one of my Top 20 Fall Essentials and I’m still getting tons of wear out of it. While a heavy scarf is not quite needed, I got the same look with this much lighter silk version. And despite my complaints observations on California’s warm Fall, I have to admit to loving the fact that heels can be worn without freezing toes.p.s. Happy Halloween! I had originally planned on wearing this outfit without the jacket (seen in yesterday’s Day One look), but New York weather had other plans. So I rolled with the punches and kind of like how the jacket added a bit of a more girly, quirky feel to an otherwise pretty menswear inspired look. This striped silk shirt from Madewell was a splurge for me at the time, but it’s been in my closet for years now and I always come back to it. These boots on the other hand were picked up recently for less than $40, but already feel like they’re quickly going to become classics in their own right. While price is certainly always a factor for me, I think part of my signature is mixing more long lasting quality pieces with of the moment deals. As Eva Chen (editor of Lucky Magazine) said at the conference ‘When it’s good, it’s good’. $5 thrift store or $500 designer. Although you’re much more likely to find me in the former. For Day One of the Lucky FABB conference, I knew I wanted to build my outfit around this vintage skirt that I scored a few weeks back at Melrose Flea Market. Aside from the skirt, I went with my old city stand-bys of a comfortable t-shirt and heeled booties that I knew could hold up to a long day of pounding the pavement. This fluffy little joy of a jacket was a seriously last minute H&M find that I just couldn’t leave without and wore on repeat for most of the weekend. In the end this outfit kind of just came together super naturally and those are always the ones where I feel most like myself. Or maybe it’s just being in New York? That city gets me every time.p.s. Jess from Jess Style Rules snapped these for me – and aside from being good with a camera and super sweet, she’s got incredible style so make sure you check out her blog.Vintage Skirt // H&M Jacket – recent in store // Madewell T-Shirt // Booties via TJ Maxx // The Steele Maiden Necklace // Bag via Marshalls
