While I’m naturally more drawn to dresses, I always find that the separates in my closet are the ones that get the most wear. A denim jacket, a printed floral mini skirt and a white sweater tank are all pieces that can be mixed and matched with just about everything else I own. And worn from season to season. Which is perfect because it felt like October yesterday?!

Generally speaking, I find myself drawn to smaller crossbody bags most of the time. Easier to keep my hands free and only tote around the necessities. But every once in awhile you just really need a classic satchel handbag. You know the kind. Grown-up women carry them. They’re for job interviews and meeting the parents and – in this case – strolling the Upper East Side. Even if the inside of that thing is a total mess – someone looks at you carrying that bag and they think you’ve got your shit together. It feels nice to have a bag like that in your arsenal.

As evidenced here – I’ve been really into simple summer style lately. And most of it involves stripes. Because when life gets busy I like to have a closet of classics to fall back on. And it’s exactly pieces like this striped lace-up maxi dress that make getting ready in 5 minutes totally possible.

Summer is all about keeping it simple. It goes by fast enough without overcomplicating things, right? So this look is simple – a striped tee I’ve had forever, blue sunglasses and heels I wear at least once a week and a straw market tote that I carry to work, the beach and everywhere in between.

In a fantasy life, I live at the beach and take long walks every morning collecting seashells. In my fantasy life I am not the type of person that feels compelled to work 7 days a week. In my fantasy life, I’m apparently a retiree. Until then? This pretty little beaded seashell t-shirt and boyfriend jeans make me pretty relaxed. And I can settle for that.
