Happy August! After spending last weekend/week sick in bed – I was more than looking forward to this weekend. Aside from a gorgeous wedding Friday night, Adam and I were up bright and early Saturday morning to head to the Hamptons for the first time. Verdict? I finally get what all the fuss is about.
Ahhh.. hello again old friends. I didn’t plan to take the last few days off but a sinus infection turned kidney infection had other plans for me and today is the first day I’ve seen beyond my bedside table since Friday afternoon. It’s been a rough one I tell ya. Luckily, I had snapped these photos last week when I was feeling all la dee da about life. The good old days.
This past weekend Adam and I spent a few days visiting Ocean City, NJ (where my Uncle has the cutest little beach house and generously let us have the place to ourselves). There was a lot of front porch sitting and beach lounging peppered with bike rides, ice cream runs and outdoor showers. I packed just a handful of things – mainly a couple of good bathing suits (this scalloped one piece is hands down my new favorite), white denim shorts, a light shirt jacket, and a pretty new dress to mix and match as needed.
SHOP THE STORY
Aside from Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale – I don’t do much shopping between now and Fall unless they are pieces that I can wear now when it’s sweltering and also later when the air turns crisp. This marigold midi dress is great against a tan and paired naturally with cognac accessories and cat-eye shades for a Sunday morning bike ride. But how good will this be with ankle boots and a chunky cable knit sweater? Or a suede moto jacket and heels? Not that I’m wishing summer away any time soon…
Aside from the occasional bridesmaid dress, I have attended countless weddings in some form of the same dress for the past 10 years. Just above the knee, nipped in waist and finished with a frill or a flounce or a floral for effect. And honestly, I love those dresses (this one especially). They’re flattering, classic and work well for dancing. But with 5 weddings on the docket this summer I was craving something different. Something that made an entrance, you know? Well, I found it.
How it’s already Wednesday and this is my first post of the week, I’ll never know. This week (and I hate to admit it this whole summer) feels like it’s flying by in a blur. Anyone else? Most Mondays-Thursdays pass me by with work days that last anywhere from 10-13 hours on average, trying to squeeze in a couple of workouts or a date night with Adam and you know.. that little thing called sleep. Which means that on the weekends I’ve been trying to reallyyyy slow down and savor it – which means no fuss outfits like this fringed summer sweater and my favorite high-waisted denim shorts.
