spotted: patterned coats

The Steele Maiden: Patterned French Connection Coat and Seychelles Boots
Maybe it’s because of my more mysterious new hair color, or the fact that we’re closing in on Halloween – but I saw this French Connection stunner of a coat at their Holiday Preview during Fashion Week and lately I can’t get it’s witchy woman vibes out of my head.  I wasn’t sure I could pull it off until I stumbled upon the above image via Pinterest and realized.. you can’t fight the vibes of a coat like this.  Give in to the Stevie Nicks meets Salem style of it and pair with a wide brimmed black wool hat, the skinnier the better black jeans and downtown cool black ankle boots.  I like to think she had on dark, blood red lipstick when she turned around.

spotted: fall hats

The Steele Maiden: Wool Hats and Baseball Caps for Fall
I’ve long since been a fan of hats (I’ve had this one and this one on repeat since last Fall), and so I’m pretty thrilled with all of the amazing options out there right now.  Most of which are under $50 might I add! I’ve got my eye on a cool baseball cap, a bright fedora and another wool floppy hat to add to my slowly growing collection.  There’s just something about a hat that makes a whole outfit look more purposeful.  Not to mention it’s a no fail bad hair day fix.  Can I get an amen?

fall must haves

These seasonal round-ups of must haves are always some of my favorite posts because it gets me excited for the months ahead but also gets me thinking about all the ways I’ll be able to mix and match the key items in my wardrobe for endless options.  This season there’s a lot of this 60’s mod feeling that I happen to love mixed with your staple leopard and plaids.  Mix in a few jewel tones and a few stand out accessories and you’ve got the makings of some really good sartorial options.  Below are just a few of the outfits I’ve got in mind.  P.S. just hover over the above image to see more about each item!

spotlight on: sheinside coats

The Steele Maiden: Sheinside affordable jackets for Fall
The thing about this perfect early Fall weather is that you can get away with light jackets.  While coats require an investment (wool, down filling, thermal linings, the whole nine yards), jackets really only need to add a thin extra layer and usually at much more of a steal.  Online giant Sheinside has about a million right now – almost all for less than $50 – and in just about every shape, color and print you could dream of.  I’m working on a full ‘Fall Essentials’ post for next week, but got so excited about all these options I couldn’t help but share these early.  That anorak with the frilled hem and oversized blue check knit are at the top of my list.  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

nyfw spring/summer 2015 trends

I promised you all a NYFW trend recap yesterday, but I figured I’d wait to let all the runway shows close out so I could be sure I didn’t miss any major trends (Marc Jacobs closed and he’s been known to throw some curveballs).  All in all I’d call the Spring/Summer 2015 shows presented over the past week inventive yet wearable.  And I think that’s about as good as Fashion gets, right? I love to see a new silhouette and color combination, but I also love to see things that I will be able to translate into my real life wardrobe.  Below, some of the top trends I spotted plus a few ideas on how to snag the look for Fall (because hey, why not be ahead of the game?).  There’s something so exciting about living in New York, working in Fashion and attending NYFW – partially because those are things I’ve always wanted to do, but also because it’s such a surge of creativity and energy.  While it was an undeniably busy week, I was thrilled to be a small part of it and share it with you all.
