On our last day in Maine, Adam and I made a plan to drive up the coast to Boothbay Harbor but along the way passed through a small town called Wiscasset and couldn’t help but pull over the car. From the most charming historic homes (each had a date marker by the front door and most were built in the late 1700s through early 1900s) to beautiful scenic seaside landscapes (those Fall colors though…) it was easily one of my favorite American towns I’ve ever visited. I wore easy and comfortable separates (a quilted primaloft jacket and striped scarf for the win) for an afternoon exploring outdoors.

I mentioned when I was packing for the trip that I was really excited about this quilted jacket (it’s really lightweight/thin so it took up zero bag space but is shockingly warm – aka a must buy for the season). On days when I know we’ll be in and out of the car I go with easy layers and solid basics – these grey skinny jeans and a white button down are great for packing too since they can be mixed and matched plus dressed up or down. Otherwise, a few simple accessories like this striped scarf, canvas baseball cap, lace-up suede flats and my favorite Lo & Sons camera bag. Together they add a bit of interest while still being practical and comfortable for long car rides or small town exploring. Is there anything quite as beautiful as fall in New England? I hope everyone gets to experience it at least once.
