One week and countless shows later, NYFW has finally wrapped. This season marked the last time the tents will stand at Lincoln Center and while I can’t predict where they’ll head next – I can predict the trends you’ll be seeing everywhere come Fall (or if you’re like me and just can’t wait – how you can wear them right now).
Seventies influences still reigned supreme and from flared legs, shearling toppers and sleek center parts the retro influences are strong, but with unexpected color combos, rich texture and subtle pattern play the looks felt completely current. As seen at Alice & Olivia, BCBG, Pamella Roland and more – short skirts were paired most often with over the knee boots (so don’t ditch those), but the majority of lengths were long and loose (the ultra wide pants at J.Crew were some of the freshest takes I saw). Slim fit turtlenecks were found layered under looser layers at Mara Hoffman and Coach, and ankle grazing duster coats made major statements at Suno and Calvin Klein. If saturated hues (like the canary yellow of J.Crew, dusty blue at Kate Spade or the rosy pinks at Delpozo – which look great altogether too) aren’t your thing – try the barely there desert neutrals of Tibi and more. And if nothing else – make sure you’ve got a touch of fur (faux or otherwise), seen everywhere from patch pockets and collars to bags and shoes.
