At the end of last year I switched to morning workouts and it changed my life. I used to go to the gym 2 mayyyybe 3 days a week. Exhausted from a long day at the office and anxious thinking about all the things I still needed to do when I got home that night. It just wasn’t working. But then..
SHOP THE STORY
I set the alarm for an hour earlier. And kept doing it.. 5 days a week. Sometimes 6. Amidst a stressful year at work, it became the time of day I relied on to keep me sane and allowed me to keep my entire evenings free to spend with Adam. By April I had ran another half marathon and felt better than I had in years. But then.. because life throw’s you curveballs.. I started experiencing right knee pain back in July and I’ve been having to nurse it ever since.
Instead of letting the fact that I couldn’t run this past month throw me off course though, I decided to use it as an opportunity to switch things up. I’ve gotten back into swimming laps at the pool, have been taking longer walks through the city and am hoping to incorporate a barre or hot yoga class into the routine next week. The key is to not lose momentum as the summer winds down and we head into fall. Have you heard the phrase, September is the other January? I find it so true – that ‘back to school feeling’ feels like a time for a fresh start each year and a time to put new things into practice.
Keeping me motivated throughout it all? Good workout clothes. Even better when they’re super affordable. I’m obsessed with this paisley tank and shorts pair – lightweight enough for the end of August humidity but still great with a fleece tossed on as the weather starts to cool. What else should I add to my workout routine this fall?
