If you’ve been stopping by lately (and thanks if that’s the case!) then you already know that I’m wayyyy into the holiday spirit. Christmas records on repeat, fresh wreath making, tree trimming.. all of it. And outfits are no exception (this one is great for your office party and this one is a standout for a holiday dinner party). This one was the most thrown together but may be one of my favorites – because it balances the fine line between comfy and casual and dressed up glitz.

His and hers Holiday Style - in a striped sweater, camel jacket, and Anthropologie faux fur pom beanie

Yesterday, Adam and I woke up to blue skies and October-like temperatures and we decided to jump in the car, escape the city and go for a Sunday drive. Since we didn’t have anywhere in particular to go we decided on a Christmas tree farm about an hour upstate. With room to roam, we spent the morning searching for the perfect tree.

CASUAL PLAID AND DISTRESSED DENIM: TWO WAYS

Plaid top and distressed denim with loafers

I was originally going to show these outfits in two separate posts – but when I noticed that both featured a casual plaid top, distressed denim and loafers.. I figured they were meant to be twinning together. Turns out this is my go-to weekend look because for the past two Saturdays I’ve reached for some variation. Comfortable, casual and a tiny bit holiday-inspired? A winning combo in my book.

An easy flannel button-down is a staple this time of year and when you pair it with a v-neck tee (these are my absolute favorite) there’s almost nothing more comfortable. This look is pretty no frills, so I added these holiday loafers (they’re embroidered with a car carrying a christmas tree on one foot and a tree-lined road on the other!) to put a little extra pep in my step. I’m definitely wearing these when we go to pick out our tree this weekend.

It seems this time of year I’m always rushing out of work straight to a holiday party, dinner with Adam, drinks with friends or some other festivities. Which is why planning an outfit that can take me from office to eggnog is crucial. From 9-5 a cashmere sweater, tailored trousers and nude heels means business… but sometime after 6PM? Just call these my party pants.

SEQUIN TOP AND SKINNY JEANS

Casual Holiday Style - Sequin top and skinny jeans

Faux fur, velvet, sequins.. getting dressed at the holidays is just more fun. But a lot of time – it feels like those fancy extras get reserved for after hours. So after I picked out this slouchy sequin top and these embellished flats from Boden (and I knew I couldn’t possibly wait to break them out until my first holiday party invite) I threw together this casual holiday look.
