the gang’s all here

The Steele Maiden: The Gang's All HereOn any given day there’s a chance that if you run into me, I’m wearing at least one of the items pictured here. But this past weekend it occurred to me that there was no harm in throwing them all on together, right?  A striped t-shirt, plaid button down, denim jacket, swingy skirt and ankle boots – all long since wardrobe staples of mine – combined made for this sort of laidback 90’s feel that I love.  The only new addition here is this navy wool baseball cap (I’d been on a hunt for a perfectly plain one ever since the summer and Sole Society delivered) which I added my own touch to with a sparkly Ship pin.  A piece I designed a few years ago that now feels like a tiny nod to The Steele Maiden.Sole Society Baseball Cap c/o  //  AE Denim Jacket – similar here // F21 T-Shirt // Plaid Shirt – similar here // Urban Outfitters Skirt // Zara Boots – old, I’ve been eyeing this pair now on sale!  //

weekend flashback

The Steele Maiden: Weekend FlashbackAs we speak there’s cornbread in the oven, soup on the stove and soon to be a fire in the fireplace.  In other words my idea of a perfect Fall night.  This weekend I took things pretty slow after a whirlwind few days in New York and coming home to lots of exciting projects in the works here in The Steele Maiden world.  While I tend to easily get caught up in working all of the time – it’s good practice to purposefully set aside time for reading, finding a new park or just relaxing at home.  It means tomorrow, I’m ready to hit the ground running.

ruchette of the month

The Steele Maiden: Ruchette of the MonthIf you’ve read this blog for any amount of time you know by now that Ruche is one of my favorite online retailers.  One of those sites that I can always count on for tempting me with their New Arrivals (like this or this), inspiring me with their beautiful lookbooks and features, or encouraging me to style the items in my closet a new way.  So when they contacted me to say they’d chosen me as their ‘Ruchette of the Month’? Well I was pretty much beyond thrilled.  Be sure to visit their blog here to read the full interview (where I admit to carrying candy in my purse and take a stand against trousers) and don’t blame me if you fall in love with more than a few things from their site.  Thank you Ruche!!There are so many good things happening around here these days that it seems fitting moving into November (a month so focused on giving thanks) to feel so grateful.  Thanks for all of your continued support, I’ve got lots more in store!

light layers

The Steele Maiden: Light LayersEver since I got a taste of real Fall weather on the East Coast last weekend I’ve been longing for the endless layering options those temperatures call for.  While Los Angeles has been chillier at night, the days are still fairly warm so I’m bridging the gap with light layers.  I mentioned this vest as one of my Top 20 Fall Essentials and I’m still getting tons of wear out of it.  While a heavy scarf is not quite needed, I got the same look with this much lighter silk version.  And despite my complaints observations on California’s warm Fall, I have to admit to loving the fact that heels can be worn without freezing toes.p.s. new york photo diary

The Steele Maiden: New York Photo DiaryI’ve already shared with you what I wore while I was in New York (here and here) but there was still so much to share I thought I’d post a quick photo diary!  The city always manages to sweep me up in it’s fast pace, so aside from Lucky FABB I also did quite of bit of dining, exploring, meeting up with friends and making new ones.  The conference itself – one day of which was held in the Conde Nast building, meaning I was just 9 short floors beneath the headquarters of Vogue Magazine – left me feeling more inspired than ever to devote myself to this little corner of the internet.  So many of the amazing speakers reverberated the same sentiment to success “Work Hard and Be Nice to People”.  And when I think of some of the bloggers I met that I’ve admired for years now, they are proof positive of this lesson.  Besides the conference, I also had the pleasure of attending a brunch hosted by Seychelles and BC Footwear over the weekend.  A room filled with some of my favorite bloggers, tasty treats and beautiful shoes? Basically the best way to spend a Saturday ever.  New York, you never disappoint.
