Ever since seeing the gilded bash hosted by Rue Magazine for their 2nd anniversary I’ve been craving a little piece of the prize for myself (what else calls to mind winning quite like this carat-ed color?).  While the baroque trend is big for this fall, I like my golds when paired with things a bit simpler.  Picture the above flashy oxfords with a simple t-shirt dress, or those amazing jacquard shorts with just a basic chambray shirt?  Take it from Kate Spade (and the necklace shown above), you’ll be as good as gold.

(4. bass oxfords; 5. free people nail polishes)

I’ve been fortunate enough to always work in very creative/casual environments, but as I prepare for my first day of work today I hope to make a conscious effort to keep my work day uniform distinctly different from my weekend looks.  That means dressing up more relaxed basics with exciting accessories and balancing tougher pieces (see here leather motorcycle jacket) with classically feminine pieces (full or pencil skirts will do).  Business suit be damned.

Friday I checked out the local Mood Fabric store (a welcome sight after being spoiled with textile choices in New York) to browse/dream up future DIY projects, Saturday was spent in utter relaxation at Huntington Beach, and today I geared up for starting my new job tomorrow and (despite the weather forecast of 80-90 degrees for this week) picked up some new fall staples that will definitely come in handy as the nights get chillier.  I can’t quite get over the joy of bare legs in mid October and just a simple sweater in the evening to keep warm.
