rain delay

The Steele Maiden: Rain DelayThere’s talk of Spring weather making an appearance this week, but yesterday I was still left waiting it out in the chilly rain.  So far I’d only worn this skirt to work (see it styled here), but I’d been meaning to get around to trying it more casually so for Sunday afternoon errands I tossed on a few lightweight jackets, and a simple beanie and boots.  While I’ve been trying to create a distinct, slightly more polished work wardrobe since I started my new job, I also can never resist re-mixing items and so inevitably even my best trousers and skirts get paired up with a t-shirt or denim at some point.  At least no one can argue I don’t get my money’s worth.. Asos Beanie c/o // Urban Outfitters Leather Jacket // Denim Jacket – similar // H&M Skirt // Rebecca Minkoff Bag via Nordstrom Rack // Steve Madden Booties via Marshalls

weekend flashback

The Steele Maiden: Weekend Flashback
If you follow along here, then you already know I was away on Maid of Honor duty this weekend for my sister’s bachelorette party.  Although we had an unexpected guest join us (6″ of snow..), the cabin upstate was beautiful and I think it’s safe to say everyone in the group enjoyed themselves.  After a weekend like that, I may otherwise be feeling pretty drained heading into a new work week.  But there’s some pretty big news that’s saving me… we finally found an apartment! And as of tomorrow Adam and I will be getting settled in the East Village after a long month of transitioning back from LA.  Things have been a bit sporadic here on the blog for the past couple of weeks, but I promise I’ve got some exciting things in the works and can’t wait to share all of my upcoming adventures in the city with you all!

spotted: flare leg jeans

The Steele Maiden: Spotted - Flare Leg JeansWhile I don’t suspect any of us will be ditching our skinny jeans any day soon, there’s something that feels incredibly fresh about the idea of a pair of bell bottom or flare leg jeans for Spring.  And while the style would be pitch perfect for festival season (and the sea of accompanying floral crowns), I love the way that Karlie Kloss was spotted wearing them.  Minimal and sleek, with just a few choice accessories.  Let those bells do the talking, right?Urban Outfitters Bag // Sunglass Warehouse Aviators // Mango Jeans // French Connection Mules // Karlie Kloss Image p.s. If you’re looking to do a little Spring shopping – my friends over at Ever + Mi Crush are having a great sale right now so be sure to check it out here

empty cargo

The Steele Maiden: Empty CargoIn just 2 short days I will officially have been living out of a suitcase for an entire month.  On the one hand I am counting down every waking hour until I’m reunited with my things and can unpack into the closet of my new apartment, but if we’re trying to make this into a glass half full situation (and I desperately am at this point) it’s certainly forcing me to be a bit more creative.  Since I’m apparently on a pencil skirt kick lately, I pulled out this faithful stand by and then dressed it down with a work shirt, cargo jacket and standard white tee.  Plus mixed in a vintage bag and leopard flats for good measure.  If nothing else, this cross country move has taught me that I could have survived pretty well as a member of a band on tour.  In another life I suppose…Tulle Jacket – now on sale! // Madewell Shirt // Madewell Tee // Vintage Bag // Madewell Skirt – similar in black and white // Steve Madden Leopard Flats – currently obsessing over these

on the steps

The Steele Maiden: On the StepsIs there anything more classic than the stoop of a beautiful New York brownstone?  Or a white button down, jeans and nude pumps for that matter?  Lately, I think my style has been evolving slightly from as girly and playful as it used to be towards the idea of remixed classics.  And while I can’t say where it will go next, I’m liking this current phase.  These jeans were such a steal and while the skinny fit and darker wash are classic, the rips add a bit of personality.  Same with these heels.  Total classics with their single sole and nude leather – but then there’s this perforation and subtle cap toe that let’s them stand out from the crowd.  As for the bag, it’s a longstanding vintage classic in my closet but with an unexpected bright orange lining.  I like to imagine this brownstone has a brightly colored wall painted inside, just to keep you on your toes.  Langford Market Vegan Leather Jacket c/o // Forever21 Shirt // Vintage Bag // Old Navy Jeans // Sole Society Heels // MakeUp Forever Lipstick #40 // Sunglass Warehouse Aviators c/o
